The 2023CMP mid-range event on August 31st attracts attention at the 2023 National Long Range MatchesAshley Dugan, CMP Staff writer, contributed the report for this article
The first-ever CMP Mid-Range 3-x-600 event at the CMP National Matches 2023 was a huge success. In its first year, 110 people participated in this multi-class match. This new event consisted of three stages of 600-yard slow, prone shots. The CMP Long Range National Match Program included the 3×600. In the future, the CMP Mid-Range Program will be a fixture of the National Matches, with competitions for multiple classes, including Long Range Rifle (LRR), Service Rifle (SR), Palma, F-Open F-TR and AR Tactical. Sara Rozanski is the CMP highpower coordinator and she facilitates the Long Range Events. She said, “We were excited about the turnout this past year.” This is a program that we want to focus more on and we hope others will give it a go during their summer trips to Camp Perry. “USAMU Shooter Leads the Field at Inaugural Mid-Range Camp Perry Match
SSG Ben Cleland, of the USAMU, led the first Mid-Range Camp Perry 3×600. Ben finished with an impressive 600-46X. Cleland admitted that Mid-range matches are one of his favorites to shoot. The distances are no different from those used in service matches, and the added challenges make them even more fun to shoot. You can achieve some amazing scores and perform well, but it is still very difficult. “Accordingly to Cleland the 3×600 match serves as a gateway event for service rifle competitors who want to compete in Long Range events. The same ranges and distances are used as they would be in regular High Power events. He said that the Mid-range discipline is gaining more interest. “It isn’t difficult to switch from one rifle into another, in terms of shooting. The hardest part is to arrive at Camp Perry well-prepared with so many different guns. “The Mid-Range match was extremely close, with only one point separating the top seven positions. The top three competitors in the Mid-Range match were determined by X Count. Cleland won by a total of seven Xs. Click HERE to view the full 3×600 match results.
