Precision Rifle Upgrade: From Stock to Sniper Superstar

There is no need to be the best. Invest in the right precision rifle upgrades you can take a base model and go the distance. What Are The Main Precision Rifle Upgrades You Should Focus On:TriggerStocksBipodsBarrelsI look at my rifles like a 350 Chevy–tons of aftermarket parts and the ability to modify it to my heart’s content. I am not afraid to modify, replace, or adjust the weapon system to suit my needs. Everyone is different and our needs change so I am happy to adjust the rifle to suit my mission. There are many videos on YouTube that illustrate this fact. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who has ever changed a factory stock or burned a barrel. Yes, I do tend to modify rifles more quickly than I do over time. I do have the luxury to access upgrades to my precision rifles. I don’t think you need to do everything at once. You can make any amount of changes over time, so let’s look at the top-line elements that don’t require a gunsmith.TriggerFactory triggers can be an obstacle. They are often difficult to adjust and can be very heavy for liability reasons. An aftermarket trigger is an easy way to improve rifle accuracy. The foundation of marksmanship is trigger control. Proper shot execution requires a precise, no-influence break. A better trigger will allow you to adjust it more easily. This makes the rifle setup more user-friendly. The stocks are my car seats, and the scope is my mirrors. StocksIt is possible to save money by buying factory rifles. Factory rifles are often shipped with very basic stocks. Companies favor a stock design that is more focused on shooting standing and hunting. Few people want to shoot standing unsupported. To maximize accuracy, we must support the rifle. Many people will use a bench to support the rifle. Others prefer to be prone. Standing stock is a compromise between these positions. More adjustability equals more comfort. I want the stock to fit the shooter’s body. I want to optimize those adjustments by looking at my mission. Will I be shooting positional shots? My pull length might be cut. This is intended for F Class. Perhaps I need a flat top? I prefer stock with tool-free adjustments to make it easy to adjust the rifle as needed. A well-made barreled gunsmith can make a good-quality barreled action and then drop it into a stock at your home. This saves you a lot of time and money.
BipodsI know, it sounds like a broken record, but they are important. Bipods are not an afterthought. They control a lot, and bipods adjust the system to suit the shooter. Your bipod may be too low if you feel pain in your neck. A locking bipod is essential for rifle canting. Because it matters, we offer different features and prices. Choose the right bipod for you based on your intended use. A bipod is only a secondary consideration if you are hunting in thick brush. A bipod is not necessary for the prone shot. But accuracy is important. A bipod should be large enough to support the rifle, wide enough in its stance and secure enough to keep the rifle stable behind it. The bipod helps us focus our efforts on sight picture and trigger control. A bipod that doesn’t support the recoil pulse is not consistent behind the rifle. Gunsmiths may need to make adjustments. Despite this, we are in the 2020s and much has changed. Pre-fit barrels can be purchased that allow you to swap barrels and calibers at your home. The rifle can then be adjusted to suit the firing task. Upgrades and additions should be made that support the shooter. I prefer rifle systems that allow me to change barrels on the line within seconds. I don’t need a vice, a torque wrench, or a torque wrench. I can do it all with a 4-mm Allen wrench. Many modern rifles are now user-swappable. I view barrels in the same way that I see tires on my car. Barrels are just as disposable as tires. This was the reasoning behind the 308. It is very unlikely that an average Joe will shoot 10,000 rounds. With our 6.5s, the average Joe will fire 3,000 rounds to empty a barrel. There will be times when you have to change barrels. I recommend that new shooters fire 2,500 rounds with your 6.5 Creedmoor before upgrading the factory barrel. It’s enough ammunition to learn the caliber, but not enough to know that you will need to upgrade. I changed my tires at 7,000 miles because I didn’t like the ride. I was not able to afford them and it was a tedious task. However, new tires made me more comfortable and increased my mileage. The heart of the system are the barrels. They are more accurate than any action. The barrel controls the results. The action is a delivery device. More adjustability means greater comfort. Aftermarket stocks solve the limitations of factory barrels. A decent gunsmith who uses modern equipment should be able spin you up and mount it in under 30 days. It’s simple. It’s no longer necessary to wait for months or even years. Time is your friend. As money becomes available, you can make small changes over time. I have more access to the money so I can swap out the kitchen sink without penalty. I suggest you choose your battles and never be afraid to replace something that isn’t working. Base factory rifles are exactly that: a base. You can always build on that base. Different models have different availability for aftermarket parts. This is something to keep in mind when selecting a brand. Flat calibers are more demanding on the base system.
