Enter to Win a Free Gun Friday from IWI > IWI’s soon-to-be released Masada Slim Pistol and Caldwell Emax Shadows Pro Close (Photo by New York Post Tweet) The horrific murder of 10 innocent people in Buffalo, New York by a hate-filled young man raises questions about how and why this criminal was able so easily to commit such horrendous crimes. New York’s Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul did not waste any time calling for strict national gun control laws. RELATED STORY Biden uses Sacramento Shooting to Push For More Gun Control New York Governor Hochul Pushes for National Gun Control Ahead of Facts Hochul made wild assumptions that the murderer had obtained magazines from other states than New York. Later, she retracted her claim and admitted that she didn’t know how or whereabouts he got the magazines. Governor: “We have some the most stringent laws in America, but the guns come in from other states or enhanced magazines, which is exactly what happened here. The high-capacity magazine led to the massacre of people in my hometown.” Hochul spoke to Dana Bash during CNN’s Sunday “State of the Union”. “So, we are dealing it on both the gun side and the social media side. The combination of unfettered wild access to guns and the unfettered sharing hate information online is a deadly combination. “We saw that here just hours ago.” This was not the case at all. Gov. Hochul should have waited for the facts instead. After passing an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System verification, the murderer legally purchased a New York-compliant firearm that he used in his crimes. He illegally altered and modified firearm. His criminal or mental records did not indicate that he was a prohibited person. Later reports showed that there should have been. Missed Opportunities The murderer had previously interacted with law enforcement. Joseph Gramaglia, Buffalo Police Commissioner, stated to media that the New York State Police confirmed that troopers responded at Susquehanna high school in Conklin, N.Y. “To investigate a report that an 17-year-old student had made threats.” Although the spokesperson for the N.Y. State Police did not identify the subject, he said that there was no target. Commissioner Gramaglia said, “They investigated. They interviewed the subject and felt it appropriate at that moment to have that person brought in for a mental evaluation. They held the murderer for about a day-and a half before releasing him. Commissioner Gramaglia stated that “On the radar” was a term used to refer to the fact that nothing was picked up by the state police intelligence or the FBI intelligence. “Nobody called. “Nobody called any complaints.” This despite reports that the murderer made pointed and specific threats to the school’s community and the school less than a year ago. A school official reported that the troubled young man made statements suggesting that he wanted to shoot at graduation ceremonies or later. This was according to a government official who is familiar with the case. ABC News reported that the FBI officials confirmed that the shooter wanted to kill/suicide at his high school’s graduation in 2021. They took him into custody and gave him a mental evaluation. Not Enough A mental evaluation is not enough to make someone a prohibited person. This would have flagged the murderer on the FBI’s NICS. The murderer was not brought to court for a mental health adjudication until less than a year after the investigation began. He was never referred to by law enforcement as a danger to himself and others. He would be subject to an Extreme Risk Protection Order or “red flag” law if he was. New York has a law that applies to these types of situations. Both would have prevented the murderer’s access to his firearm. Gun Control Fail Gov. Hochul was not the only one calling for immediate, knee-jerk gun controls without knowing all the facts. U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D.N.Y.), tweeted that it was important to “pass commonsense guns safety measures.” Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., tweeted for gun control support, writing: “We are not powerless in helping end this reoccurring violence specific to our nation. Reach out to organizations that are working to stop it; help bring change about.” He also added a list with gun control groups. U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., ran quickly with half truths and recited gun control talk points even though the facts weren’t in his favor. Rep. Kinzinger tweeted, “You must be 21 to purchase a pistol here in the United States.” “Can we all agree that we should raise the AR age to 21?” Shouldn’t everyone have background checks? I believe so. These are 90% of the issues, do it now and continue debating them the rest.” The shocking truth is that the alleged killer chose to use this firearm to make media headlines. In his manifesto, he allegedly stated that he chose to commit his crimes in an area where he believed his victims would not be disarmed. He referred to New York’s strict gun control laws. “Plus NY has strict gun laws so it would be easier for me if I knew that any legally-armed civilian was limited only to 10 round magazines or cucked guns.” Citizens reject gun control Not all New Yorkers are buying more gun control to protect themselves from racist murderers. Fox News quoted a Buffalo resident as saying, “It’s absurd.” Something needs to change. It would be better if more people were armed and knew how to use a gun. Gov. Hochul and her fellow gun-control politicians will likely push for gun control measures. They will do it with the mantra of “doing some thing” to protect their communities. It is evident that gun control measures are disarming law abiding citizens. Gun control laws leave innocent people at risk of the worst in society, those who don’t respect the law or life.
