This number is in the tens to millions. We should be grateful to President Biden for his efforts to increase gun sales across the country. Perhaps it’s time to get one the gas pump stickers of President Joe Biden that says, “I did that.” NSSF Survey: President Biden boosts nationwide gun sales. It is his failing policies that are driving many people to legalize gun ownership. Americans from all walks of life have been awakened by the Biden administration’s inability to address rampant crime, Second Amendment rights violations, and weaponizing of Bureau Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to become a political arm of firearm control instead of a regulatory and law enforcement bureau. Americans who are concerned about their safety and those in the firearm industry are not surprised. Each month, NSSF publishes an Adjusted national instant criminal background check system report. It displays the number of FBI background checks that were performed on firearm sales. For the past 33 months, this number has been more than a million per month. New Report, Old Information. The New York Times and Wall Street Journal trumpeted the publication a new ATF Report. However, it’s not new information. The National Firearms Commerce and Trafficking Assessment was published by ATF. The report is a compilation existing public information that’s available on the ATF’s site. This report was posted to the ATF’s website just one week before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee will review President Biden’s nomination for Steve Dettelbach as the next ATF Director. It contains all the information that has been available to the public in one easy-to-digestible, 306-page report. The Biden administration has done the research for media to gather all firearm production and illegal trafficking reports. According to the New York Times, semiautomatic handguns are the most popular-selling firearms. This is not new information. The NSSF has been explaining to us that handguns have accounted more than half of all firearm sales. They are typically used for personal and domestic defense. This was made even more evident in April 2020 when there were 2.3 millions background checks for firearm sales. This was the highest number of background checks ever recorded for a single month. New Gun Owners The gun-buying trend led to over 21 million background checks in 2020 for gun sales. This was followed by 18.5 million in 2021. It wasn’t just existing gun buyers adding to their gun safes. In those two years, more than 14 million gun buyers were first-time gun buyers. There was also a significant increase in the number of Asian-Americans, Hispanic Americans, and women purchasing guns. The gun owner of today is more diverse than ever, representing more Americans because more Americans from all walks of American are buying guns. This shift was recognized by Axios, a news outlet that focuses on policy and is widely read by Washington, D.C. lawmakers and their staffs. According to a Gallup poll, rising crime was America’s top concern. Personal Safety is the number one reason people buy guns. This gun-buying boom began in April 2020, when COVID-19 lockdowns were implemented. Police also warned that they wouldn’t have the resources to respond to every 9-1-1 emergency call. This was when officers were pulled off the beat due to infection. Also, COVID concerns led to violent criminals being released from jail. The violence that followed in 2020 saw cities across America witness riots and looting, as well as murders. This was followed by gun buying, along with election-season rhetoric from Biden-Harris’s campaign to enact broad gun control plans. It doesn’t take 306 pages to see that Americans care about their safety. Add in the support of “Defund the Police”, policies by politicians, and no-bail or soft-on-crime policies which turn criminals out on the streets to continue to commit more crimes. The violence has not subsided. Racist-motivated attacks continue to be a problem even today. Americans continue to buy firearms. Los Angeles’ KTLA published a report about African-Americans buying guns for self-defense. Oni Powell explained to reporters that “we have to be diligent” and that “our safety is our first and foremost concern.” Criminals Being Criminals The ATF report again shows that criminals don’t obtain firearms through legal sales. They are acquiring them through theft and the illicit black market. This information is also not new. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics report by the Department of Justice, convicted felons who were convicted of crimes using a firearm admit that they obtained it illegally in large numbers. This is another sign that the Biden administration’s crackdown against the firearm industry is wrong. Administration officials blame “rogue guns dealers” for the rise in crime, when the truth is that criminals are the ones responsible. They don’t have to go through an FBI background check before they can commit crimes. The New York Times reported that police recovered 19,344 privately-made firearms (PMFs), also known as “ghost guns.” Emily Miller, a reporter covering firearms, tweeted that some cities, such as Washington, D.C., Metro Police Department, had been including guns with obliterated serial number in their “ghostgun” recovery figures. Market demand is the reason firearm production is at an all-time high. More Americans are choosing lawfully to arm themselves to protect their family members. This demand was driven by runaway criminality that the Biden administration refuses seriously to address. To meet this demand, firearm manufacturers increased production. Biden can understand this in simpler terms by visiting NSSF and getting one of the “I did that!” stickers.
