Gun owners have been subject to the anti-gun crowd’s relentless attacks for years. Although we laugh it off for the most part it is still annoying. It is evident that this is a desperate attempt at portraying gun owners in a negative light. It is obvious that they don’t realize it is us who are making fun of them. The Worst Gun Owner Stereotypes you’ve Heard
To see the violence and nonstop rhetoric of the left, you don’t need to be politically active. You can also see the violence in movies made by so-called anti-gun celebrities. It is no surprise that they are unable to imagine a world where everyone could own a gun. This is part of what makes their stereotypes so funny.
Here are some of your favorites that you shared in our latest Facebook “Real Talk” discussion.
Itchy Trigger Fingers
It will not surprise me to learn that gun owners are often portrayed as crazy with itchy trigger fingers. We all know that responsible gun owners are well-trained and don’t enjoy pulling the trigger. Never let the truth get in your way of a compelling story.
These are just a few of the top stories our readers have shared about how crazy they are.
“[That] all gunowners are mass shooters, waiting for an opportunity.”
“All gun owners should shoot anything that moves.”
“We all want the ‘Wild West” to be revived.”
“That we are dangerous. Just wanting to shoot something.”
“That gun owners are all just itching for the trigger on an invader.”
Crazed Zealots
The belief that all gun owners can be considered militia or conspiracy theorists is often lumped in with “trigger happy nuts”. Although it’s unlikely that this is true, the anti-gun crowd might want to read the Second Amendment. Perspective can be a positive thing.
Some of our readers took off their tinfoil hats, and risked sharing their favorite locations.
“Unsafe, violent and crazy preppers!”
“[We] are all tinfoil-hat conspiracy theorists!”
“To assume that all gun owners are NRA zealots is absurd. I have a gun, but I am not a member. I don’t want any organization to ask me for money.”
“[That] we’re all domestic terrorists radical.”
Partisan/Racial Lines
It amazes me how celebrities label gun owners Republicans or Conservatives. People like Alyssa Milano who not only owns a gun but also has armed security. Rich elite liberals seem to believe that guns are for me and not for you.
Even a “liberal hippie freak” can sound off about being annoyed by stereotypes. This is a sign that the narrative is failing.
“That’s why only Republicans have guns.”
“I am a gun owner…who is a mixture of liberal hippie weirdos and antisocial hillbilly.” It irritates me when people assume I can’t have a gun since I wear [tie dye].
“That we are all white.”
Humorous
The stereotypes above are mostly true, even though they may seem serious. There is always one that shines as a beacon for humor to bring things back in focus.
“Just having 1 gun makes us happy.”
This is a dangerous stereotype. What if our spouses heard this? They might think that we only want one gun. That would be sad.
This stereotype is not entirely false. We would be happy if we owned just one more gun.
