November 18th, 2022Reloading using Progressive Presses — 10 Tips to Get Good Results. Progressive reloading presses allow shooters to produce custom-tailored rifle or pistol ammunition with speed and efficiency. There are many Progressive Presses to choose from and a vast array of options. In this video, the 6.5 Guys and UltimateReloader.com’s Gavin Gear provide an overview of the leading Progressive Presses on the market along with key considerations for precision rifle shooters. This informative video will help you decide if you want to buy a Progessive for rifle ammunition reloading. Make sure that the brass is clean. Do not mix older range pick-up brass and newer brass. Before you start the sizing/loading cycle, spray a thin, oily lubricant on all cases. Before you start the operation, prime your brass separately using a bench tool or a hand tool. Before loading powder or bullets, inspect the primers. When loading the Progressive, especially if you are priming cases, always wear eye protection. Use masking tape to mark the powder measure/dropper. 6. You can cycle a few cases, adding powder and sizing. To ensure that the powder charge is being charged correctly, weigh the powder charges. 7. For the first few rounds, make sure to check the brass for any bumps or unevenness in the bullet seating depth. Then, check again regularly. Maintain a steady pace and use the handle in the same way every single time. Visually inspect each case for powder charges before bullet seating. If your Progressive Press has enough stations, you can use a lockout die. Never mix rifle powders with pistol powders. If you have loaded pistol ammo previously with your Progressive, ensure that all powder (every kernel and flake) has been removed from the powder-dropping systems before adding rifle powder.
