Rimfire Excellence — Bartlein Barreled.22LR Tactical Tackdriver

May 9th, 2020Rimfire Excellence – Bartlein Barreled.22LR Tactical TackdriverBrian, a gunsmith with GA Precision, and GAP colleague Anthony Soukup built this rimfire setup. On his Facebook page, Tactical rival Bryan Sikes posted a picture of a rimfire setup we really liked. Brian is a gunsmith at GA Precision. This rifle was built by him and Anthony Soukup, a fellow GAP gunsmith. This rig is made of top-quality parts from head to toe. It has a modified Rem40X action, Manners stocks, Bartlein barrels, and Mack Brothers suppression. Bryan assures us that this rifle is as good looking as it is powerful: “This baddest little.22 LR Trainer ever.” I’m really excited about it. It’s exactly the same length as my regular comp rigs, both in terms of barrel length and can. This 40X is a great training tool. Its length, balance and ergonomics are nearly identical to Bryan’s competition centerfire rifles. Modified Remington Action 40X

Many readers were curious about the bottom metal of the Bushnell DMR2 scope with G3 reticle and the detachable magazine box. Bryan Sike reveals that the magazine setup was designed to replicate my actual competition guns. The bottom metal can be used with AI magazines, and it uses a standard M5 inlet, just like any centerfire rifle. Mike Bush created a high-reliability rimfire magazine for the.22LR using the same dimensions as an AI magazine. This rifle was no different than any other. The action was modified, barreled and fully bedded. “using ALL components common to match centerfire rifles.” Modacam Custom Rifles modified the Rem 40X action to work as a Repeater with box magazines. Bryan adds that there is a new rimfire Action in the works. Both are TRUE repeaters that don’t use a Savage magazine. This rifle feels nothing at all like a.22 LR, and that was the point. “Why You Need a.22 LR Cross-TrainerMany men who compete in long-range tactical matches train with.22 LR guns of similar configuration. Rimfire ammunition is more affordable, you don’t need a large range, and shooting with rimfire will save your centerfire rifle from wear and tear. Our friend “DesertFrog”, a tactical match shooter in Southern California, explains that he used to shoot 200 rounds of.308 match ammo per month (50 rounds per weekend) for training. I shoot around 600 rounds of the.22LR and 50 rounds of the.308 win per month. Using.22 LR primarily for practice did not affect my performance in actual competitions. I was able to shoot my.308 as well in matches and saved hundreds of rounds. If I didn’t reload, and still bought boxes of Federal Gold Medal Match 308 Win [at $1.75/round], that would be [$262.50 per monthly on the centerfire ammunition (150 rounds ).]” Money saved is money earned.Targets for Rimfire Cross-TrainingSPECIAL BONUS-Rimfire Tactical Precision Targets These FREE targets by DesertFrog are offered in Adobe Acrobat format for easy printing.
