Shooting plates is fun. You get immediate feedback – “instant gratification”, when you hit a plate. We prefer to use rimfire.22 LR guns when shooting steel within 100 yards. The ammo costs less, the noise level is lower (though ear protection is still required), and there are fewer issues with bullet splash-back and ricochets at close ranges. Kel-Tec CP33 is a great pistol for shooting plates if you enjoy rimfire guns. We were impressed when we tested this handgun at the 2019 SHOT Show Media Day At The Range. The pistol is large, but it balances well. The sights are easily visible, and the full length rail allows you to mount a variety optics. The trigger is surprising good – better than 90% of the rimfire handguns available. This “quad-stack gun” can handle long stages in the plates game without changing magazines. The standard CP33 magazine can hold 33 rounds of.22 LR ammunition. If you’re looking for a high-capacity, semi-auto rimfire gun that is affordable but also very accurate, you should check out Kel-Tec CP33. Shooting Sports USA (SSUSA), notes that “the rapid growth of rimfire in Steel Challenge has prompted a few gun makers to join the fray.” It’s a nice feature. It would be fun to add a reflex sight to the gun and shoot some Bullseye.”
