Rimfire Plate Shooting is Fun, Exciting and Affordable

October 19th 2023The Action Target Sport Plate Rack was designed specifically for.22 LR Rimfire. This rack has six plates with a diameter of 4” that can be reset using the cable provided. Shooting plates is fun. You get immediate feedback – “instant gratification”, when you hit a plate. We prefer to use rimfire.22 LR guns when shooting steel within 100 yards. The ammo costs less, the noise level is lower (though ear protection is still required), and there are fewer issues with bullet splash-back and ricochets at close ranges. For those who are too busy to reload ammo, they can also pick up a.22 LR pistol or rifle, grab a couple of $5 boxes, and be at the range within minutes. It’s easier to shoot each week, if you want. SFC Joel Turner of the USAMU Action Shooting Team gives some tips on how to shoot plates fast and accurately. The same principles can be applied to rimfire handguns. He is using a centerfire gun, but they are the same. Click the speaker icon to hear audio. The.22LR CP33 is a great pistol for plates

Kel-Tec CP33 is a great pistol for shooting plates if you enjoy rimfire guns. We were impressed when we tested this handgun at the 2019 SHOT Show Media Day At The Range. The pistol is large, but it balances well. The sights are easily visible, and the full length rail allows you to mount a variety optics. The trigger is surprising good – better than 90% of the rimfire handguns available. This “quad-stack gun” can handle long stages in the plates game without changing magazines. The standard CP33 magazine can hold 33 rounds of.22 LR ammunition. If you’re looking for a high-capacity, semi-auto rimfire gun that is affordable but also very accurate, you should check out Kel-Tec CP33. Shooting Sports USA (SSUSA), notes that “the rapid growth of rimfire in Steel Challenge has prompted a few gun makers to join the fray.” It’s a nice feature. That’s a nice feature.Overall SSUSA’s tester, Chris Christian, was impressed with the gun, saying it balanced well and the sights aligned naturally: “…the neutral-balance-point grip produced an almost instinctive sight alignment.”Christian used the CP33 in a 6-stage Steel Challenge Match, and did well: “I decided to shoot Rimfire Pistol Iron (RFPI) and used the CCI Mini-Mag. The high-speed ammunition worked perfectly. The bright sights and handling characteristics let me finish first among iron-sight pistol shooters, and even hold my ground with C and B classes rimfire pistols using optical sights. It would be fun to add a reflex sight to the gun and shoot some Bullseye.”
