What the Box-Fed Semi Auto Offers:A similar control layout to an AR-15. A terse 26-inch overall height. A nimble 14-inch barrel. Capable of handling 3-inch 12-gauge rounds. It’s almost true. With the introduction of the VR80, Armscor gave AR-style scatterguns an important boost with the introduction of its VR80. The 12-gauge was as small as a mouse and could run with the best of them. It set the standard in smoothbore market. The brand’s sister brand, Rock Island VRF14, is now in the game. It is a 12-gauge semi-automatic gas-operated semiautomatic and, while technically not a shotgun. It falls under the bizarre ATF category “Firearm”, which basically means that it has a shorter barrel and overall length than average, as well as a pistol-grip. Although it lacks the VR80’s streamlining the shorty still looks very intimidating and powerful. The 14 in VRF14 refers the firearm’s most distinctive feature, its 14 inch barrel. It is extremely compact, thanks to the combination of the clipped rear (where the buttstock was removed), and the short length of the gun itself. The gun measures 26 inches overall, which is terse to say so. It’s ideal for little things to slip behind your truck’s driver seat or to be used in a pack. The VRF14 is very lightweight. The gun weighs in at 6.6 pounds and should be easy to carry around. But, there is a tradeoff. According to the laws of physics, less weight equals more recoil. This is a concern given the smoothbore’s 3-inch diameter chamber. Rock Island provided a large pistol-style grip to help maintain the VRF14’s controllability. It also featured rubberized finger grooves. The gun is almost identical to the VR80, which is almost like an AR–and is easy to use. The fore gives you ample space to grip the gun. There is also diagonal texturing to help keep your hands in place. The gun comes with full-length rails from the top to the bottom and a flip-up sight in case you don’t want to use a red dot. It’s compatible with Mobil Choke tube. The VRF14 only ships with a 5-round magazine. However, if you need to scale up, you can get 9- or 19-round mags. Rock Island expects the VRF14 will hit stores after August 1. VRF14 Specifics
