Romanian WASR 3 5.56 AK Rifles Now Available

Century Arms has resumed importation from Romania of the Cugir WASR 3 AK 5.56x45mm AK after a long period of inactivity. This is the first time Century Arms began importing them in 1990s. People often criticize the guns for their poor finishes and raise the possibility of buying one with canted sight. Cugir’s finish is designed for utility, not aesthetics. Canted sights were never a problem with rifles made before 2008. Cugir’s AKs were limited to 7.62x39mm for many years. Century Arms recently resumed importation in 5.56x45mm of the WASR 3 WASR 3 since the arrival of the first semi-auto Romanian AK guns on American shores. Although the rifle has been called many different names over time, including CUR-1, WUM-1, WASR-10, it’s always been readily available. What’s been less consistent, however, is the availability of this gun’s differently-chambered brothers. The WASR 2 in 5.45x39mm NATO and the WASR 3 NATO in 5.56x45mm NATO are examples. Both have been unavailable on the secondhand market for many years. It was therefore surprising to see the new-production WASR 3 rifles sold without any official announcement from Century. It doesn’t have a listing on Century’s website as of this writing. Photo: Atlantic Firearms. WASR 3 rifles can still be purchased from various online retailers. The gun is essentially a WASR-10, chambered for 5.56x45mm. It can take standard AKM-pattern furniture and comes with a side rail to allow for optics. The barrel is 16 inches in length and threaded at 14×1 LH. It is not yet known if the barrel is chrome-lined as the original import’s. The WASR 3 will come with one 30-round magazine. However, the rifle has been modified to work with 5.56 AK mags. This is similar to the WASR underfolder models. The value of the WASR 3 is not as good as other 5.56 AK imports such the WBP Jack and Zastava M90, which are $1,200. The WASR 3’s cost must be lower than the two other options in order to be competitive. Century Arms.com has more information. Target grids and bullseye sizes can be downloaded in MOA. This is a great option for long-range shooting. Enter your email address below.
