Saturday at the Movies – Affordable Rifle Reviews

October 23rd 2021 Saturday at The Movies: Affordable Rifle Reviews
Image courtesy Guns America Digest Savage Axis II Review. Many of our regular readers are serious competitors and own high-end F-Class, Palma, Benchrest, and/or Service Rifles. These fully-custom match rifles easily surpass $5500 with an optic. These rifles are a source for pride and competitive success. Many shooters want something more affordable for fun rimfire matches and plinking. This is the main point of this story: affordable rifles that are good quality and won’t break the bank. Video Review of Affordable Rifles

Recently, we discovered a YouTube Channel that focuses on affordable rifles and scopes. The channel is appropriately named Affordable Optics & Rifle Reviews (AOFF) and has 170+ videos online. Many of these videos have over 100,000 views. They are Canadian-based, so their perspective is a bit different from most American gun vloggers. Today’s Saturday at the Movies feature features five of our favorite rifle reviews, all from the AOFF website. These videos are great starting points for anyone who is considering any of these rifles. Many rifles can be used for hunting or tactical matches. 1. Comparison of Ruger Precision Rifle and the Savage 110 Precision. These rifles are directly competitors in the $1300-1400 market. The Savage combines the proven model 110 Action with a modern Modular Driven Technologies(MDT) chassis. The new Gen 3 Ruger Precision Rifle features a free-float MLOK handguard, which provides better scope clearance. The Ruger Precision MSR buttstock attaches on an AR-style buffer tube via a left-folding hinge. The stock adjusts for length and comb height. Both rifles have been shot. We like the accuracy and balance of the Savage, but prefer Ruger’s adjustable butt system. 2. Bergara B-14 vs. Tikka UPR rifle Comparison AOFF compares the Bergara B-14 HMR with the NEW Tikka UPR. This is an interesting comparison video. They can be used for hunting or shooting tactical matches. AOFF notes that both rifles are excellent. Both rifles performed well at long range (we took them to 750m in our previous reviews). The Bergara B-14 is about $1000, while the Tikka is currently about $1400. 3. Savage Axis II Precision Rifle with MDT Chassis. This video shows the Savage Axis II Precision chambered in Creedmoor. This rifle is a great value for money at $899.99. This rifle is a great starter rig for anyone who wants to compete in PRS/NRL. It can also be used as a hunting rifle. The MDT chassis is ergonomically designed with an adjustable comb and adjustable length of the limb. AOFF writes that the MDT chassis is a great choice for anyone who wants to try long-range shooting but doesn’t want to remortgage their home. AOFF believes the Savage Axis II is one the most affordable chassis rifles available. It combines a precise barreled action with a nice MDT platform. This comprehensive Savage Axis II review is available in Guns America Digest. 4. MDT XRS Modular Chassis for Tikka T3x AOFF has tested the MDT Chassis and Tikka T3x Varmint in.223 Rem or.308 Win. AOFF states that the MDT Chassis is a good value. “This isn’t a cheap rifle stock, but it IS one most can afford.” The XRS Chassis was designed for shooters who desire the ergonomics and benefits of a traditional-shaped riflestock but with the modern precision rifle chassis system. The MDT XRS Chassis is made from a full-length CNC machined aluminum core of 6061 aircraft quality aluminum with external textured panels. It can be configured for a variety short actions, including Rem 700, Tikka T1x/T3 and Savage, CZ 457 and Howa 1500. 5. Winchester Wildcat.22 LR rifle The Winchester 22 has received very positive reviews from its owners and is a great deal. AOFF reports that the Winchester 22 was a fun rifle to shoot and plink. It is light and easy to shoot, thanks to its low recoil. It retails at $220 USD, making it affordable and fun. It is not perfect. We found two things that could be improved on the Winchester Wildcat 22, the short grip and the short stock.
