Saturday at the Movies – Precision Rimfire Rifles and Competitions

July 2, 2022 Saturday at the Movies: Precision Rimfire Competitions & RiflesRimfire tactical-style matches have become one of the most popular types of rifle competitions in the country. Over the past five years, the USA has seen a significant increase in tactical rimfire matches. NRL22 and PRS Rimfire matches can be found throughout the country. There are ten times more rimfire tactical matches than sanctioned PRS or NRL centerfire matches. It is because rimfire ammunition is cheaper and clubs can host challenging rimfire tactical matches at almost any outdoor gun range that permits shooting out to 200+ yard. This is similar to PRS competitions. The NRL launched the NRL22.22LR Rimfire series. The NRL22 Rimfire discipline has been a huge success. Rimfire guns are easy to use and the ammo is affordable. NRL22 matches that have attracted the most participants have seen up to 200 rimfire competitors. PRS now has its own PRS.22 Rimfire series. Today, July 2, 2022, is the big NETT PRS.22 Match in Terrell Texas. Pieter “Piet” Malan, a South African host, hosts the excellent Impact Shooting YouTube Channel. It now has over 320 videos on hunting and target shooting. This video shows a TriggerCam attached to the scope. It allows you to see hits on the targets just like the shooter. There are five classes available: Open, Base and Ladies, Young Guns (8-16), and Air Rifle. Base Class is for budget-minded shooters. The MSRP of Optic and Rifle may not exceed $1200.00. For example, you could spend $700 on rifle and $500 on scope. This makes the sport affordable. The Optic and Rifle prices are not subject to any price caps in the Open, Youth, or Ladies Classes. NRL22.org is a great resource for finding matches near you. Precision Rimfire Competition Report This video shows a large rimfire precision match, the King Of 0.28 Miles, which was held at Rush Lake Range, MN. The video features multiple stages with targets reaching 300 yards and a 465-yard challenge. Dave shot the match using a Vudoo Gunworks V22 rifle with a Grayboe Ridgeback Stock and a Trijicon Accupower 4.5-30x56mm FO scope. Lapua Center-X was the ammo. This was a top-tier choice. MARS was initially known as the Mid-Atlantic Rimfire Series. It was founded by David Luu to provide PRS-type competition at shorter ranges using more affordable ammunition. The distances are shorter but the challenge is still there: Luu explained to Guns.com that shooting a.22 LR at 200 yards is similar to shooting a.308 from 1,000 yards. Luu offers a list of tips and tricks to help beginners start rimfire PRS. The MARS website is the source of the lead photo. Every gun and every barrel are different so it is important to test different ammo types in your rifle. You can also benefit from lot testing with specific ammo types to optimize ammo selection. Lot testing is a great way to improve your rimfire accuracy. It can be done at your own range or at a testing facility. There is no substitute for having a lot of ammunition to start with. First Rimfire Precision Match — Lessons Learned This video is for people who are just getting started in Precision Rimfire. F-Class John, a top FOpen competitor and YouTube creator, is starting to learn the.22 LR precision discipline. He shares his lessons learned from his first.22 LR precision game. Pursuit of Accuracy YouTube channel has many more informative and honest gear reviews. And on Joshua’s website, Pursuitofaccuracy.com, you’ll find gear recommendations and free downloadable targets. Our Bulletin featured Joshua’s precision rimfire rifle, the CZ 457, last fall. NRL22 matches are a great shooting discipline. NRL22 is a great shooting discipline that offers high fun at a low cost. Match ammo is not required to be reloaded. You can get through the match with just a couple of 50-round boxes.22 LR ammunition. Some people bring a lot of gear to matches. This is not because they have to. It’s possible to keep it simple while still being competitive (and winning). Tips for NRL22 Competitors
Jonathan Ocab

My gun club has a match director and I also manage our local NRL22 matches. I am often asked for tips on how to compete in NRL22. First, I recommend preparing the course of fire for the month ahead of time and practicing the stages at the range. These are some other tips that will help NRL22 competitors improve gun-handling and match results. 1. Dry Fire Practice — If you’re unable to practice your shooting position at the range, I encourage shooters who are unable to practice with live fire to practice their positions at home using a dry fire. Set up props, barricades or faux targets with pasters or other materials on a wall inside or outside the house. Run through each stage. 2. Scope Magnification Level — I see the most common problem with NRL22 shooters who try to magnify their scope magnification. The timer will begin, and the shooter will position himself on a target. However, the scope magnification is set to 15x or more and the shooter cannot find the target. The shooter reduces the magnification to locate the target. After that, the scope is increased again. Novice NRL22 shooters can use the mid-range magnification. Learn to balance the field of view and target images by shooting 7x-12x.
