February 12, 2022 Saturday at the Movies: Riflescope Comparative Tests + Spotters. The optic is often the most expensive part of a rifle. Even hunters may spend more on scopes than they do on rifles. Scopes are a significant investment so it is important that you do your research before making a decision. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to test drive more than a dozen optics. There are many video reviews that can be found online that are helpful. We present five scope comparison tests with different price points. A special bonus — a review of 19 different spottingscopes from ten manufacturers. Pew Pew Tactical (PPT), published a detailed comparison of nine long-range scopes. PPT compared each model to determine clarity, eye relief and reticle design. It also examined parallax and windage/elevation travel. PPT also has short videos that demonstrate the operation of all the scopes. PPT REVIEW HERE. NINE Long Range Scopes Compare 1. Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24x50mm
2. Vortex Viper PST II 5-25x50mm
3. Leupold VX3i LRP, 8.5-25x50mm
4. Leupold Mark 5HD 5-25x56mm
5. Burris XTR II 5-25x50mm 6. Steiner PX4i 4-16x56mm
7. EOTech Vudu 5-25x56mm
8. Primary Arms 6-30x56mm
9. Schmidt & Bender PMII 5-25x56mm 2. $550 Max Price Five-Scope Showdown The 5-scope comparison test from Armslist Media produced some surprises. All scopes reviewed were $1500 or less. The majority offer 5X at low end, 20X or 25X high end. Three offer a four-to-one zoom ratio, while SIG Whiskey5 offers a five-to-one ratio and the Leupold VX6 boasts a six to one zoom ratio with its 3–18X lens. This is great for varmint hunters, who often scan a large area of view before zooming in on a specific critter to take the shot. All these scopes are great value for money, we think. We recommend that anyone looking at these optics also consider the Zeiss V4 range, which offers exceptional glass at very affordable prices. EuroOptic is selling the Zeiss Conquest V4 6-24x50mm for $1199.00. The Zeiss V4 would definitely be our first choice for a SFP Varmint scope. FIVE $1500 Scopes Compare 1. Leica ER 5-20x50mm

This video shows the controls of each of the five optics. There are also through-the-lens views that show the reticles. The tester criticised the SIG Tango’s “scope shadow” and the overly complicated labeling on the knobs. The Burris XTR2 was liked by the tester. He said it was “bomb-proof” and he appreciated the Burris glass color fidelity. (7:58). NOTE: The Nikon Black FX1000 series optics have been discontinued. These optics are now available at very attractive prices. The reviewer stated that even before the price reduction, he was not convinced there is another product on the market that could compete with this one. (7:12). EuroOptic.com has the 4-16x50mm FX1000 for only $649.99 — a steal. Five $1000 Scopes are compared to the Burris XTR2 5-25x50mm FX1000. Burris XTR2 5-25x50mm

Best Rimfire Scopes Under $200 (.22Plinkster).22Plinkster is an honest tester who shoots thousands upon thousands of rimfire rounds each year. He’s able to review budget-priced scopes for rimfire rifles. Because rimfire rifles have different recoil pulses than centerfire rigs and because rimfire rifles can fire hundreds of rounds at plates in an afternoon, it is important to choose a scope that has been tested thoroughly to ensure durability. Plinkster preferred the Bushnell Rimfire Series of scopes out of the dozen he tested: “I’ve used [Rimfire Series] scopes quite a bit. These scopes are great for the price. He also recommended Vortex Crossfire scope. He noted that it had clear glass and a transferable lifetime warranty. “Vortex is my favorite scope to use and they really stand behind their products. “BONUS Video — 19 Scopes Reviewed” YouTube has many videos of riflescope comparisons. There are very few reviews that compare more than one spotting scope at a time. This remarkable comparison test compares 19 spotting scopes with sizes ranging from less than $300 to more than $3000. The maximum objective tested was 88mm. This video is a must-see if you are looking for a new spotting telescope. Spotters tested by: Athlon Cronus UHD and Bushnell Forge. Kowa TSN 553, Kowa TSN 773.
