February 26th, 2022Saturday at the Movies — Videos of Cool Products for HandloadersFor this Saturday-at-the-Movies session we offer a selection of videos featuring interesting tools and products for handloaders. These tools will help you save time and load more ammo in a shorter time. 21st Century Powered Neck Turning Lathe Do hundreds of cases need to be turned each year? This outstanding tool is for you. 21st Century Innovation Powered Neck Turning Lathe is perhaps the most efficient system for uniformizing (and reducing) cartridge brass neckwall thickness. We have the original 21st Century neck-turning machine, and it works flawlessly. This powered system allows you to turn necks quicker and more efficiently with less effort. It’s like switching from a stick-shift to an automatic transmission. The cases fit very well and the results are stunning. Note: These videos show the original 21st Century Shooting version. 21st Century Innovation now operates as 21st Century Innovation. The Powered Neck-Turning Lathe is a modular system. To feed the case, swing the bar left to right. Smooth movement is possible with the power head (with case holder). This allows for a very precise feed rate. A button is located at the end of the feed handle and supplies power. To make the case spin, push the red button. It’s that simple. Hornady OAL Tool and Hornady Bullet Compareator Gun Tech Steve Ostrem explains the proper use of Hornady’s Overall Length Gage to accurately determine length-to land. The OAL Gauge has a modified case that threads onto it and holds a bullet. Push the gauge back until the bullet touches the rifling. To ensure that the bullet aligns correctly, we tap the rod gently at first. Once you have the length, use the tool with a comparator to determine the length-to land. NOTE: It is recommended to measure the length at least three to four times per row to get a reliable number. You should be able repeat the measurement within.0015?.Henderson power case trimming/chamfering machine test F-Class John reviews some of your best reloading or shooting equipment. He recently added the Henderson Gen 3 Powered Trimmer (the best) to his toolbox. John is now a Henderson enthusiast. The speed, precision and repeatability of the Henderson machine, which costs $779.00, is what John likes. It trims-to length and chamfers case mouths in one pass. The Henderson indexes the case length, not the shoulder, unlike other trimming tools. John found that this worked well for his.284 Winchester brass. The case moves inward towards the cutter blade precisely thanks to the dual horizontal support shafts. The Taper Lock cutter offers a 14-degree inside and 30-degree outside chamfer. The Henderson’s design captures brass shavings well and ensures consistent trimming case to case. John was impressed by the precision of the Henderson trimmer, as well as the overall design of this machine. It offers excellent ergonomics and precise alignment of the cases, as you can see in the comparison. As you can see in the videos, cycling is smooth and enjoyable. The Giraud is also an excellent machine for bulk trimming/chamfering but the Henderson has some advantages.Concentricity Checking with Accuracy One Gauge Every serious hand-loader needs a quality concentricity gauge. The Accuracy One Concentricity Gauge is a smart device that produces repeatable, precise results. The unit’s ease of use and versatility make it a favorite. The Accuracy One Gauge measures the internal and external neck runouts of cartridge cases, as well as the seated bullet runout. It can also measure runout of individual bullets’ ogive, bearing surface and boat-tail. It can also measure the primer pocket runout. These accessories can be used with almost all standard dies and not just LEE-brand dies. The new LEE basic-silver-finish die lock rings have splines for improved grip and compatibility to LEE’s new die ring wrench (photo below). They still have a rubber 0-Ring to help “float” the die for better concentricity. Gavin also reviews Lee’s Spline Drive Breech Lock Bushings to be used with presses equipped with LEE’s Breech Lock system. These Breech Lock bushings are quick to change dies without having to modify the setting. The new, colorful bushings have splines that can be used with the Lee Lock ring wrench. The Breech Lock Bushings also have a clamp that preserves the die depth setting. This video covers hand priming tools and case prep tools, powder tricklers, expander mendrels, powder tipler, long-tube funnels, and other key reloading tasks. This video is great for anyone who is just starting hand-loading. It covers a lot, and illustrates options for different types of tools.
This Lyman case prep tool was one of many reviewed in this 15-minute video.
