Saturday Movies – Garmin, LabRadar and Caldwell Compact Chrono

There are many threads in the Shooter’s Forum about the new compact radar-chronographs, especially the Garmin Xero C1 which is a hot seller and the new LabRadar LX. Members want to know if each one works well. The video showcase today can answer these questions. Two competitors are now “catch-up”, after the hugely successful launch of the compact Garmin Xero C1 Pro radar chronograph. Caldwell’s midsized VelociRadar, which uses innovative Chirp Radar, is a new unit from LabRadar. In today’s Saturday Video Showcase we present video reviews of three noteworthy Compact Radar Chronographs. Garmin Xero Pro Chronograph Garmin Xero (r) C1 pro chronograph is already a huge success. This compact $599.99 clock has been selling out in stores nationwide after great test reports. Many LabRadar users are selling their older orange radar clocks because of the performance and quality provided by the Xero C1 Pro. This official Garmin product launch video highlights the features of the new compact radar chronograph: Introduced late in 2023, the Xero C1 Pro has been a huge hit. The Xero C1 Pro measures just 3.03′” x 2.38″ x 1.36″, making it compact and easy to carry. The Xero C1 Pro records projectile velocities accurately from 100 fps up to 5,000 fps using Doppler radar. It works with all types of projectiles. The button-operated design makes setup simple and intuitive. RecoilWeb Review: SEE THE COMPLETE REVIEW. Garmin’s ShotView(tm), a smartphone app, allows you to compare velocity for all shots fired. You can also track ES/SD and record total sessions. The rugged Xero C1 Pro clock has an IPX7 rating for water resistance and up to six hours of battery life. The unit comes with a compact tripod and is described as being “sunlight visible, transflective, Monochrome”. This makes it easy to read in any conditions. Here is a video review by our friends at Area 429. This review confirms the Garmin’s reliability, ease of setup, and great performance of the Smartphone App. Users have reported that the Garmin is more reliable than the original LabRadar. LabRadar LX Compact LabRadar introduced its new LabRadar compact Doppler Radar Chronograph at the 2024 SHOT Show. This unit is extremely compact, measuring only 2.5” by 2.75′” by 2.75′”. The LabRadar LX is equipped with a durable metal case, a lifetime battery and a tripod. The unit can display Average, ES and SD Velocity, as well as a range of 65-5000 FPS. Observers noted that the LabRadar LX’s LCD screen is bright and high contrast for outdoor viewing. Overall, the exterior design is impressive. Watch both videos to fully understand the differences between the Garmin and the ultra-compact LabRadar LX. It’s worth considering all your options when shopping for a compact clock. The Garmin Xero C1 Pro costs $599.99 while the Labradar LX costs $599.95. Caldwell VelociRadar Caldwell unveiled its new VelociRadar Chronograph at SHOT Show 2024. This is a lot bigger than the Garmin Xero C1 Pro, or the new LabRadar compact. It is still relatively compact compared to the original LabRadar orange unit. Caldwell VelociRadar is different from other chronos in that it uses a different type of radar (Chirp Radar instead of Doppler), which has some advantages. Caldwell says: “The Caldwell VelociRadar Chronograph redefines precision with cutting-edge Chirp Radar technology. This chronograph is not a standard chronograph. While most chronographs only provide muzzle velocity, the VelociRadar also tracks bullets downrange to give a full picture of ballistic performance. The VelociRadar uses these downrange velocity measurements to calculate true muzzle velocity, bullet’s ballistics coefficient, and downrange power.” Note that Caldwell says that this new machine will allow you to calculate the true Ballistics Coefficients of bullets fired from your rifle. BONUS Video: Garmin vs. Magnetospeed vs. Large LabRadar This video is a comparison between the Magnetospeed chronograph and the full-size LabRadar. The Primal Right team tested all three chronos using a dozen different cartridge/bullet combos. NOTE: We’ve used Magnetospeed successfully. The placement of the device can affect accuracy. You may need to finalize your load development without the unit. You can tune your accuracy with a Garmin or LabRadar while monitoring your ES, SD and ES.
