NRA Media has a series of informative video about the Science of Shooting. These videos cover a wide range of topics from eye dominance, to long-range shooting ballistics. These videos have high production values with super-slow-motion segments and helpful computer graphics that illustrate the principles. Jessie Harrison is the narrator of these videos, an action pistol shooter who was the first woman to achieve USPSA Grand Master Status. BULLETTRAJECTORY – Factors in Play and Zeroing Strategy Host Jessie Harrison, formerly Jessie Duff, and Veteran Air Force Sniper George Reinas explain the factors that affect bullet trajectory. The graphics are exaggerated and the terminology is inconsistent, but this is still a good primer on bullet trajectory. This popular video has received over 1,000,000 views on YouTube. INTERNAL ballistics — Cartridge Ignition, Bullet in Barrel What happens in the barrel of your gun as you pull the trigger back? Jessie Harrison discusses internal ballistics in this edition of Firearm Science. This includes the combustion of propellants, the pressure created, and the movement of the bullet through the bore of the gun barrel. There are some 3D animations that show how the powder charge ignites, and the bullet moves along the barrel. This video on shotguns is the most popular in the NRA Firearms Science Series. It has received over 2.2 millions YouTube views. Olympic trap shooter Corey Cogdell explains in this edition of Firearm Science how choke tubes can affect a shotgun’s shot pattern. This video is a must-see for all Shotgun Hunters. It explains the effects of choke tubes in a very clear way. This Firearm Science video features George Reinas, an Air Force veteran sniper, who explains the process of zeroing rifles at long range. George Reinas demonstrates how to adjust the scope to compensate for bullet drops at long distance. Dennis Santiago, a friend of ours, was involved in the production of this video. It was filmed in Southern California at the Burbank Rifle & Revolver Club. In this edition of Firearm Science, Jessie Duff demonstrates how eye dominance can affect your aim and teaches you how to determine which eye is dominant. You can perform very simple tests to determine your eye dominant. This editor is left-handed, but has a dominant left-eye. All competitive shooters are encouraged to check their eye dominance. You can change your head position if you are cross dominant or you can put a paper on one of your shooting glasses frames.
