Saturday Movies: Turret Press – 9, 8, 7 and 6 Stations

A turret presses can be of great benefit to any handloader. This type of press has an upper rotating disc with multiple threaded places for dies or tools (such a powder dispenser). Turret presses are available in a wide range of models, from the Area 419 9 Station Zero Press to the affordable Lee turret press. Between them are the 8-station All American turret from Lyman, the Redding T-7 press with 7 stations, and the RCBS 6 station turret. Today’s Saturday Video Showcase features notable turret press from Area 419. Lyman. Redding. and RCBS. The first feature is on the advanced Area 419 ZERO nine-station turret. Area 419 ZERO Reloading Turret Press, 9-Station — Area 419’s impressive ZERO reloading turret is a 9 station turret with some unique features. This press was designed as the most precise turret that has ever been created. As tested by Gavin Gear of UltimateReloader.com, the ZERO turret press delivered very impressive shoulder-bump consistency and ultra-low seated bullet run-out (about +/- 0.0005”). The numbers were the best you can expect from a single-stage quality press. Area 419 has done some impressive engineering. This is to be expected, as it’s a large investment. The MSRP for this press is $1275.00. SEE FULL REVIEW on UltimateReloader.com. The ZERO turret presses allow you to install up nine (9) different reloading turrets in the large top turret which revolves around a centralized axis. The ZERO, unlike most turret press models, does not flex or wobble while loading. This is due to the clever locking system Area 419 has included for the turret after you have selected the dies from your array. Lyman Brass Smith All-American Turret Press This 8-station Lyman Brass-Smith All-American Turret Press has a lot to offer. Since its introduction in 2018, the All-American 8 by Lyman has been a favorite among handloaders. The 8-station Lyman, which retails at $227.50 at MidwayUSA is $148 less than the Redding T-7 (7-station) (current Amazon price). This is a huge price advantage that has helped Lyman to take over Redding’s turret presses. More Reloading Stations Offer More OptionsGavin liked the 8 stations because it offers more flexibility. Eight stations allow you to have four sets of two dies, or three sets of two dies plus a decapping tool and a powder measuring device. Gavin says: “I have owned many reloading press models, including 3-stations, 4-stations, 5-stations, and 7-stations variants. But I never owned an 8-station model until the Brass-Smith All-American 8 arrived at the shop. I’ll say… you can never have too many stations on a manually indexed turret. I love that you can load multiple calibers/chamberings with the same turret setup. It has one more station than RCBS’s other “green” turret presses. It has a reliable priming system that is optional and a lot of leverage. The Redding T-7 has a good build quality, but is now more expensive than the Lyman Turret which has an additional station. In the next video, you can see a comparison between the Redding T-7 turret and the Lyman 8-station press. Compare the Lyman Turret vs. Redding T-7. This video compares the Redding T-7 with the 8-station Lyman turret. This video compares the Redding and Lyman turrets, demonstrating how they perform their key functions. RCBS Six Station Turret Press The Editor has been using an RCBS Turret Press since over 15 years. It may not have the most advanced features or stations, but its reliability has been proven over the years. It is primarily used with pistol seating and sizing dies. I can load different cartridge types with six stations: 9x19mm.357 magnum, and.45 acp. READ FULL REVIEW on UltimateReloader.com.
