Our Sccy CPX2 review. There aren’t many budget guns on the US market. There are Sccy, Taurus and Hi-Point as well as a few other non-9mm options. Hi-Point, Taurus, Sccy are the most popular 9mm budget handguns. Although the Sccy CPX 2 was not made to be the most expensive firearm on the market it is intended to be one of those that is the most affordable.
Sccy’s goal? To arm as many Americans as possible. To not come out with the most powerful gun ever made. They don’t claim that the gun is better than it is. This is something I love about the company. Let’s now talk about the gun.
Disclaimer
Although this is an opinion piece, I try to eliminate bias. We’ve all seen them before. Although they claim to be helpful, gun reviews are often just a sales pitch to convince you to buy before you even start your research. Or worse, a review written by someone who has never held a gun.
To better serve our customers, I have trained with some of the most respected shooters in the world. To build the best products on the market, I have purchased guns of all prices, calibers, action types, and calibers. I want you to leave with the information you need in order to make an informed purchase decision.

Role
The Sccy CPX2 gun is very lightweight, weighing in at just one pound unloaded. It holds 10 rounds and is quite large. It is similar in size to Taurus G2C. It’s lighter and has a different feel. This gun is not intended to be used for range or duty. They seem to be targeting concealed carry and self defense customers with this gun. This gun is not something I would want to use to shoot at the range for fun. We’ll discuss more about that later.

The Sccy CPX2 is a budget pistol that will fit within a tight budget. The Sccy CPX2 costs around $200 to $300 if you include the red dot sight. It can hold 10 rounds and is large enough to shoot decently. It is small enough to conceal, but not too small. As long as they are dressed in sensible clothing and have a good holster. It will work for IWB carry. Appendix IWB Carry or OWB Carry.
Features
The Sccy CPX 2 can hold 10 rounds. There are no aftermarket magazines for this gun. Any that I trust from a reliability standpoint. It looks smaller than it actually feels in your hand when you look at it. When you look closely at the dimensions, it is quite large. Most of the gun’s size is around the grip. It is also very lightweight, making it easy to use at range.
Grip/Ergonomics
Although the Sccy CPX 2 grip doesn’t feel great in the hand it’s not bad. It could be more ergonomic. One of these is the finger grooves. The finger grooves work great for me and keep the gun in its place. They also make up for other shortcomings we’ll discuss later.
However, if your hands are larger than mine, the finger grooves could be a problem. This really puts you off the firearm. The grip is not modular, so there is no way to remove the backstrap, grip panels or any other similar features. What you see is what your get. There are no other options if it doesn’t work. But, considering the price of this gun you can’t really expect any.
Texturing
The texture on Sccy CPX 2 may as well be inexistent. The grips have a texture on the sides, but it is only there for aesthetics. The texture is not necessary to maintain a solid grip. It’s a very smooth gun. It’s very light and comfortable, especially considering the polymer material. It doesn’t bode well in the shooting section, which we’ll discuss later.
General feeling
The overall feel of the Sccy doesn’t feel bad. However, it isn’t as secure as the Taurus G2c and G3C. These guns feel better in the hands and are less expensive.
Sights
The Sccy CPX2 can be ordered with either one of two sight options. The Sccy CPX2 comes with two sight options. One is the standard, iron sights. They are made of steel, which is a nice feature. They are not bad. Although they aren’t target-grade sights, they are actually quite good considering the price of the handgun. Another option is to have the sights milled for a crimson trace, which is only available to Sccy pistols. This is the red dot that you see on the pistol in this review. It’s a red dot that I have, but I don’t trust it for defensive purposes. The trigger will turn the red dot on and off, flickering on and off. Sometimes it won’t turn on at all.
The housing is made of polymer and it is difficult to get it to fit snugly to the slide to ensure a consistent contact with the battery. This optic is not something I trust. This gun can be used to shoot slide-mounted optics or as a range toy. It should be fine. If you are buying this for serious self-defense purposes, I would recommend going with the irons until red dots technology becomes a little more affordable. It’s not worth the $100 upgrade.
Controls
External safety is not available on the Sccy CPX2. The Sccy CPX1 version of this pistol has a thumb safety. It’s extremely uncomfortable to shoot, so I wouldn’t recommend it. This is due to safety features.
Magazine Release
The CPX 2 magazine release is now right-side-only. The magazine release is left-handed only and sits on the gun’s left-hand side. It’s very easy to hold in my hands. To reach the magazine release, someone with smaller hands may have to break their grip.
Slide Stop
Surprisingly the slide stop on Sccy CPX2 has a very well-designed design. It’s a plastic over-mold on a sheet of metal and is very ergonomic. It can be reached easily by a right-handed shooter using either your firing hand thumb, or your support hand thumb when you are reloading. From what I have seen, it is one of the best-designed features on the gun.
Overall Ergonomics Sccy: CPX2 Review
Overall, the ergonomics are good. The mag release works well. The slide stop works well and the slide has good serrations. The Sccy CPX actually has better serrations that many guns costing twice as much. The texturing is poor and the grip doesn’t feel great in the hand. The texturing would make it difficult to find any negatives about this gun considering its price. The texturing is not sufficient, even at this price.
Trigger Sccy CPX2 Review
The Sccy CPX 2 trigger is a double-action trigger. It is extremely heavy but it is also extremely smooth. This trigger’s smoothness cannot be overrated. It has a very springy feeling. It’s also very consistent and smooth. It will it win any awards? It won’t, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well it performed considering the price of the pistol.
Aftermarket
The Sccy CPX 2 doesn’t have an aftermarket. The majority of people who buy this gun don’t want to improve it. They are buying it because it is the best option for them. It’s not surprising.
Maintenance Sccy CPX2 Review
This gun is a little different than other firearms. First, lock the slide. Next, use a screwdriver or a wrench to turn the take-down lever that is slightly recessed within the slide. Once you’re comfortable with it, it’s easy to do. It makes a lot sense. It’s just a little different than what I’m used too. It’s easy to disassemble and clean. Once you have done that, you can easily remove the slide and then disassemble both the recoil assembly springs and the barrel.
Aesthetics
There are many color options available, and the slides can also come in stainless steel and black. The slide in stainless steel looks great, and I’m not exaggerating. The frames look terrible. They feel cheap and look cheap. The pistol grip looks out of proportion to the rest. The slide is extremely narrow and small, while the pistol grip looks almost like a two-by four hanging from a standard screwdriver.
Sccy CPX2 Review of Shooting
It’s not as bad as you might expect when you shoot the Sccy CPX 2. The gun is only 16 ounces unloaded and it will jump around a lot in your hands due to its lack of texture. If you are a beginner shooter, the double-action trigger can be frustrating. My hand can feel it more as an experienced shooter. I have been practicing the muscles to pull the heavy trigger. This gun is very heavy and can be difficult to control if you are a beginner shooter.
For a more experienced shooter, it won’t be a problem. If you have the money to buy enough rounds to make it comfortable, You may be able to afford a better quality option.
This gun isn’t much more expensive than a Taurus G2C. I would recommend, if possible, that you save 25-30 dollars to purchase the Taurus G2C. Instead of the Sccy CPX 2, The Sccy CPX 2 is better. This gun is a great option if you are looking for a backup to your backup. However, you won’t get as much value from it as a Taurus G2C.
