Searching for the True Meaning of The Second Amendment

Gun-control advocates often have a poor understanding of firearms, as we all know. Proponents of stricter regulations, whether it’s the U.S. firearm laws or how guns work, almost always unwittingly show their ignorance. The Second Amendment applies to hunting. This is a common and shameful example. This mischaracterization was again displayed by the Washington Post’s editorial team. It concerns David Chipman’s confirmation hearings as ATF director. The Post stated that “AR-15s are not necessary for hunting, protection, or any other legitimate civilian use, and their popularity is a poor reflection on responsible gun owners.” This claptrap was clearly written by someone who is either out of their depths or dishonest. Neither of these people should be considered major media organizations. This is not because I disagree with the position (though it is true that I do). It’s a distortion to one of the most important founding principles of this nation. Hunting is not mentioned anywhere in the Second Amendment. Militias are. It specifically states that a well-regulated militia is essential for the security of a free country. Anyone who has a basic knowledge of American history will know that the militia of old was composed of private citizens equipped with their own weapons. These are not deer rifles but weapons of war. Contrary to President Joe Biden’s assertions, the right is so broad that citizens have owned cannons at times. This is a clear example of the Second Amendment’s scope when viewed in light of America’s Founding Fathers experience. They fought against tyranny and fought a violent revolution against the most powerful army in the world. As a result, squirrel stew was the least of their concerns as they created the Bill of Rights. It was liberty and maintaining freedom of speech. This is difficult to accept in today’s palliative or decedent times. Partly, blame the chattering class. After decades of lobbying a flabby-thinking population with phrases like “responsible firearm ownership” and “assault weapon,” they have shifted the debate. Even pro-2A advocates use the anti’s language often because it’s so implausible. This is dangerous ground for liberty defenders. Perhaps both. They wouldn’t be able to say that the AR-15 is not suitable for civilian use. It is precisely the firearm that the Second Amendment protects. The rifle is a reliable defensive tool and a target hunting iron. It, the AK and FAL, AR-10, as well as a host of semi-automatic firearms, are the modern equivalent to privately-owned military arms. Computers have not restricted the First Amendment; advances in firearms technology hasn’t restricted it. Do not allow yourself to be swept up with the gun-grabbers’ paradigm shift. It’s time to stop allowing politicians and media talk heads to dictate the narrative. Instead, politely agree that legitimate gun ownership is the right for hunters. The Bill of Rights contains the Second Amendment. It is there to protect liberty, even if it requires another revolution. This country allows you to voice your disapproval of this right if you so choose. It won’t change what the amendment means. However, ignorance and deceit will continue to dominate the narrative, much to patriots’ dismay and that of civil-rights advocates. Don’t let it. Ask them if they are implying that the Second Amendment exists for other reasons than opposition to tyranny. The undisputed truth is indisputable. The constitution does not guarantee your right to own weapons for war, but it does allow you to hunt rabbits.
