May 23rd 2023SFC Brandon Green is Speaker at 2023 Camp Perry Nat.l MatchesThe Civilian Matchesmanship Program has the honor of announcing that the 2023 National Matches first shot speaker will be renowned rifle markman Sergeant First-Class (SFC) Brandon Green. Green, who has been a member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit since 2004, announced his retirement for 2023. This year’s National Matches will be his last in uniform. SFC Green is one of the world’s most talented riflemen. He is a multiple-time High Power Rifle National Champion. SFC Green won the NRA Long Range Trophy for 2022, as well as every other major trophy in 2022. This was a first. Green, with this truly dominant Long Range performance and his three previous National High Power Championships has established himself as the greatest American marksman who has ever lived.Green is also a 5-time champion of the Interservice Long Range Championships. Green is a five-time champion of the Interservice Long Range Championships. He has also been a key member of record-setting teams for both service rifles and long range rifles with the USAMU. He has also served as the lead instructor for the unit’s Marksmanship Training Courses. Green served as Team Leader for the USAMU Service Rifle Team from 2010 to 2022. SFC Brandon Green Marksmanship HighlightsSFC Brandon Green has won multiple Service Rifle National Championships. Green set a new record of 499-30X at the National Matches 2017 during the National Trophy Individual event (NTI). He then went on to win the Mountain Man title and set a national score. The following year, he beat the score for a new score of 1296-83X, which still stands today. In 2017, he won the championship title at the CMP’s first 2400 Aggregate Rifle during the National Matches High Power Rifle series.

Greene Scores Perfect 100 at President’s 100
Green shot a perfect score 400-20X at the 2018 National Matches. He won the match with a score of 400-20X. Since the event’s inception (in its present form) in 1894, no other competitor had achieved a perfect score.
Green has received many military honors, including being named Soldier Of The Year by the Military Marksmanship Association of 2013. His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (3 times), Army Commendation Medal (2 times), Army Achievement Medals (4 times), Good Conduct Medal (four), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (four), National Defense Service Medal (four), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (four), Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, and the Army Service Ribbon.
The First Shot Ceremony is held annually at the Camp Perry National Guard Training Facility to welcome the National Rifle and Pistol Matches. The National Matches are a month-long competition that brings together the top rifle and pistol competitors in the country. The 2023 First Shot ceremony will take place on Monday, July 10 at 4:30 pm on the grounds of Camp Perry. SFC Green will make the traditional first shot to officially open the National Matches. Green will be shooting the M70 bolt gun once used by DCM and two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Gary Anderson to shoot the National Matches’ 200-yard standing records in 1971.
