New gun owners or those who are considering buying a gun may find the cost of entry to shooting sports prohibitive. Guns can be expensive, and other items like eye and ear protection and ammunition can also add to your budget. Once you have all the equipment, you’ll need a way of transporting it to and from your range. Good range bags are a great solution.

Most new gun owners will be able to get by with a minimum of equipment until they are ready to dive in with both feet. Shooters need a few essentials. A good range bag is near the top of this list.
I’ve seen old Walmart bags used many times to carry gear. A range bag is designed to keep your gear organized and safe.
Rang Bags Types
There are two main types of range bags: the typical duffel bag and the backpack range bag. The difference is in how you carry them. If you don’t like to wear backpacks or have bad shoulders, you may prefer a regular rangebag.
For easier carrying, choose a backpack with shoulder straps and solid carry straps. Straps for backpacks should be both strong and comfortable.
There are certain features that you should look for, regardless of the type of range bag. Let’s look at some of these factors.

You’ll first want to choose a bag that is heavy-duty and has a reinforced bottom. If you are serious about shooting, you will have to carry several pounds of equipment each time you go to the range.
If you buy a bag that is too thin and does not have a reinforced bottom, it will leave you frustrated. You may end up buying another one.
You’ll want a bag that has several different compartments. The zippers of the internal compartments may or may not be present. External compartments should be zippered so that you can store your gear and guns away from dirt and dust.
Test the zippers when you are shopping to ensure that they are high-quality. If you buy a bag that has cheap zippers, and they fail, then you may not be able to close the compartment. Or worse, you may not be able to access your gear or gun because the zipper is ruined.
Double zippers are also very handy. If one zipper fails, you can still open or close the compartment using the other zipper.
What is the right size for you?
You don’t need the biggest bag available. A small, well made bag will hold all of your gear and your gun(s). When deciding what size bag to buy, consider the possibility of adding more gear and guns in the future.
These can be extremely useful. Some bags have magazine pouches to make it easier for semi-auto gun owners to organize their magazines.
Eye and ear protections, ammunition and other essentials are best kept in smaller pockets. Buy a bag that has plenty of storage compartments. This will allow you to spend less time at the range searching for gear.
