Springfield Armory has brought back JMB’s iconic 9mm Hi-Power pistol with their new SA-35. It features subtle improvements over the original design. Although it didn’t gain the same popularity in the USA, pistol enthusiasts have recognized its strengths and the important role it played in modern handgun design. For several years, new models have been absent from the American market. Those looking for a Hi-Power have had to choose between expensive original models, beaten-up surplus, or foreign-made replicas of questionable quality. The Springfield Armory now has a new Hi-Power option: the SA-35.
It’s refreshing to see new wood and steel available for sale in a world filled with black plastic guns. Although most 1911s these days are more tactical than classic, Springfield chose to stay true to the BHP’s roots with the SA-35. Springfield’s new Hi-Power is reminiscent of the time when it was designed. It features matte blued finish and checkered walnut grips. The SA-35’s original details, such as its single-action trigger, 9mm chambering, and “no-bite”, rounded military-style, hammer, are almost identical to the original. They mostly stayed true the original, but Springfield has made some improvements and upgrades to the SA-35.
The SA-35 is America’s first Hi-Power. It is therefore only natural that it would be the best. The manufacturing process is where the first modern improvements to the SA-35 are made. They are constructed using precision CNC-machined, forged-steel components. This allows the gun to have extremely tight tolerances, which should increase its accuracy. Modern heat-treatment techniques are used to heat treat all parts. This means that the SA-35 should be stronger than previous versions. Hi-Powers is a wonderful pistol. However, it has always had issues with its triggers and the inability to drop magazines. This problem has been fixed by the removal the disconnect safety. This safety was originally designed to protect conscripts from injuring their guns while cleaning them. The SA-35’s removal of it allows for a faster trigger, better reloads, and a gun that can still go bang even if the magazine is lost. The SA-35 comes with a single 15-round, flush-fitting magazine. The magazine is the SA-35, which includes a single flush-fitting 15-round mag. The only thing that is missing to modernize the SA-35 is an optics-ready slide and a rail segment. The SA-35 has an MSRP of $699 and is available now.For more on Springfield Armory, please visit springfield-armory.com.More On Hi-Powers:NEXT STEP: Download Your Free Storm Tactical Printable Target Pack 62 Printable MOA Targets with DOT Drills – Rifle Range in YARDS This impressive target pack from our friends at Storm Tactical contains 62 printable targets for rifle and handgun range use.
