Steel Challenge 2023 on Shooting USA TV Today

Bang Clang! August 23rd 2023 This week, Shooting USA TV will be featuring the 2023 Steel Challenge World Speed Shooting Championship. The Shooting USA Steel Challenge will air on the Outdoor Channel on August 23, 2023. The show times are Wednesdays at 9:00 PM Eastern, Pacific, and 8:00 PM Central. After these broadcast times, you may watch the show on Vimeo on Demand at $0.99 per episode. This past April, some of the fastest speed shooters from around the world demonstrated their skills at the Steel Challenge Championship held at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Complex, Alabama. The Steel Challenge course is made up of eight close-range 5-target stages. This discipline is sometimes called “drag-racing with guns”. Draw and shoot five steel targets using time as your score. The shooter who has the lowest total time wins. This is a popular event – when registration opened for 2023 Steel Challenge in only 12 minutes, more than 700 spots were filled.This month, the NRA Shooting Sports USA website featured the 2023 Steel Challenge in Talladega. There are several pistol and revolver categories, both rimfire centerfire, and iron sights. The rimfire rifles and pistol-caliber centersfire rifle classes are gaining in popularity. There are 13 different gun classes, which is the most of any shooting championship. In the centerfire handgun matches, competitors who use enhanced open guns with red-dot and compensator optics post the fastest times. Watch the Shooting USA 4-minute video. You can also see the fastest shooters in the world, including Jessie Harrison (1.47, 3.44) and Max Michel (3.48). You’ll be amazed at the speed of semi auto rimfire rifles – five targets are hit in less than two seconds! Mike Dalton and Mike Fichman founded the Steel Challenge in Southern California in 1981. The two Mikes were looking for an exciting alternative to the paper targets, so they came up with a format that was all steel. Steel Challenge World Speed Shooting Championships has grown to be one of the largest professional firearm competitions in America. In 2022, scores competed for cash and glory at the Talladega Marksmanship Park. The Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA), which is governed by eight standardized stages and three types of steel targets, small circle, square, and big circle, governs the Steel Challenge.
