Here is a project that was done by one of our Forum Members. Martin C., aka “Killick”, modified an Anschutz Match 54 rimfire prone Stock to become a comfortable and great-tracking F Class Open Division Stock. No, Killick did not sacrifice a perfectly good rifle for this project. He bought the Anschutz 1411 Match 54 rimfire prone stock on eBay and then transformed it.
Killick explains that the project began about seven years ago. I bought the Anschutz stock on eBay, whittled it down a bit and turned it into a Palma with a Barnard block and action and a Doan-Trevor cheek piece and scope. About two years ago, I decided to convert the stock/action assembly to an F-Open rig. “With more whittling and gluing…and sanding…and priming…and sanding…and painting, waiting…painting, painting…and painting and before you know, Bob is your uncle.”
Here is the Anschutz 1411 stock that was purchased on eBay, with a new high-gloss finish. It was originally modified to be used in Killick’s Palma centerfire rifle. Looks nice!
The next step was to add a 3-inch-wide wood foreend for F Open duties with a front rest.
This is almost done… just needs priming, and then final painting.
This is Killick’s finished F-Open rifle, with its Anschutz stock that has been modified and now finished in fire-engine-red lacquer. This image shows detail of the grip, customized cheekpiece and custom cheekpiece.
