Stribog SP9A1 Review

Here is my Stribog SP9A1 Review. The Stribog SP9A1 was a bit of a failure when it was first imported to the United States. This was before pistol braces existed and there wasn’t much demand for the gun. It was only practical if you were going SBR it. The majority of the guns were sold at a steep discount for distribution.
Global Ordinance was soon a Stribog importer. Global Ordinance began importing Stribog in the same year that SB Tactical introduced a variety pistol braces. These braces can be used directly or with adapters made by third-party vendors. It gave new life to the platform.

What is the appeal to the gun?
The gun feels great right out of the box. The gun uses an aluminum extrusion as the upper receiver. It also has a polymer lower, which includes the magazine well, trigger pack, and pistol grip. It just feels very well-made.
Is it unusual? It is not. It does feel different to other polymer options. Yes. This gun is a great deal considering the price. It’s a great gun for the price and is very compact. Although the gun has an 8-inch barrel, the gun’s factory version is still less than 16 inches in length. It is comparable to its competitors, which have shorter barrels but are the same length as or longer than this gun.
The Stribog SP9A1 has a bit of that “movie-gun” quality. It’s a refreshing change from the AR-15. While I love the AR-15, it’s not for everyone. It’s a great weapon, but you need to be able to appreciate a change in pace. It’s great to see a gun that isn’t everyone has.

Ergonomics
Gun ergonomics are vital. Sub-gun clones and AR-15 style PCCs tend not to have the best ergonomic design. The Stribog is a rare exception in certain areas, but it follows the rules in others.
Safety
The Stribog SP9A1 has a very high safety rating. It features an ambidextrous safety system with plastic paddles that are placed in the exact same place as an AR-15. My only complaint is that the right-side safety rubs my hand when I place the safety down. It’s not a major issue, and I’m glad it’s there. I find myself using my trigger finger to put the safety back on. It’s intuitive and simple to use.
I wish the right-side safety lever was a bit more low-profile, flusher or shorter. This would have prevented it from rubbing my knuckles when I turned the safety off. It’s still one the best PCC safety available, so I’m not really picking on it, especially considering the price of this firearm.
Pistol Grip
The pistol grip is one of my biggest issues with this gun. The lower receiver integrates a molded-end pistol handle. I would have preferred a lower receiver that can accept AR-15 style pistol grips. This would allow you to choose the grip you prefer. Unfortunately, this system is stuck with what they give.
The grip angle is closer to the M16A1 than a modern grip that sits lower. This gun was made to be shot in the prone, not QCB. That doesn’t make much sense to me. It would have been much better if they had a straighter pistol grip or allowed for you to make your own AR-15 pistol handle.

The pistol grip has nice texturing that I like. It also matches the texturing on front of the magwell. Grand Power used texturing that was aggressive enough to give a good grip but not too aggressive to cause any harm to your hand. This gun can be shot with normal hands. They did a fantastic job, in my opinion. It would have been great if they allowed for an AR-15 stockgrip to be installed.
Mag Releases Stribog SP9A1 Reviews
This gun’s magazine release is ambidextrous. It’s located exactly where an AR-15 magazine release should be. It’s a great design, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s simple to use and easy to reach with your index fingers. Even if you have shorter fingers, it’s likely you won’t have any trouble reaching the magazine release. Although it has a slightly aggressive texture, I don’t mind nit-picking. This magazine release is one of my favorite on any gun in this style.
Magazine Well
Although the Stribog’s magazine well is small, it has a nice bevel. These magazines are smaller than the PCC-style guns. They were originally designed to fit the Colt- or Uzi-style mags, but have been scaled up to work in a polymer format. We’ll talk about those issues later, but the magazine well works very well and it’s easy for you to insert a new magazine.
Bolt Release/Hold open
The bolt release is located right above the magazine release. It is difficult to reach with my index finger. It would have been nice if they moved it a bit further back to make it easier to reach. It’s just sheet metal stamped and there’s only about an eighth of an inch between the lip and where you can put your finger.

It works well when I use my support hand thumb to release the bolt release. However, I cannot use my index finger (trigger finger) to trigger the bolt release. This is something I would love to be able do. It’s too stiff. It would be much easier if they gave it a little more lip. The aftermarket has solutions.
Charging Handle
This gun’s charging handle is as easy as it gets. It’s non-reciprocating, which I like, but it’s just been turned metal. The design is free of texturing and allows for rotation. You can switch it from the left to right side to choose how you want to use the gun. It shouldn’t interfere with accessories that you have attached. It’s a great gun. However, it could be improved and refined a bit.
Handguard Stribog SP9A1 Review
My biggest complaint about the Stribog SP9A1 handguard is likely to be its handguard. The handguard is quite tall. It’s not like an AR-15, where your handguard can fit around the handguard. It’s more like an FN Scar. This gun won’t work well if you prefer a thumb grip at 12 o’clock. Mounting accessories can be difficult because of the handguard’s height.

It can be difficult to activate your light or find a setup for both left-handed and right-handed shooters. I prefer to have all my guns set up for ambidextrous usage whenever possible, and the Stribog isn’t necessarily the easiest gun to do this with. We’ll get to that later.
Trigger
The trigger on the Stribog SP9A1 works well. It’s not perfect, but it’s still not terrible. It only has a little creep before it stops working. It feels a lot like a Mil-Spec AR-15 trigger, but it’s a bit heavier and plasticky-feeling. It’s still a decent trigger, better than some of its rivals, but it’s far from the best trigger in all of the world.
I believe that this trigger can be replaced with compatible AR-15 triggers. However, you will need to research more about it online. This is not a trigger I would replace, but I might consider getting a better trigger if this were my go-to gun.
Brace/Stock Stribog SP9A1 Review
Stribog SP9A1 has a few stock and brace options. The 1913 rail can be attached to the gun’s back. This allows you to mount the brace/stock of your choice. SB Tactical makes some great braces that can be used with the 1913 adapter. However, there are other braces such as the Triangle Folder from PSA and Gear Head Works.
There are many companies that offer extensions that can be used with the Gear Head Works Tailhook or a stock. SB Tactical also offers a direct mount brace. These braces can be folded to the side of your gun and will not interfere with the safety, the ejection port or any other controls.
Stribog SP9A1 gun is very well-designed. The ability to attach a folding brace to the gun makes it more stable to shoot and also allows it to be compacted if you want to store it in a backpack, or just in the safe. The folding brace allows me to fit more guns into my gun safe. It can be placed on a shelf and not take up space for a full-sized rifle.
Stribog SP9A1 Review Accessories
The accessories you choose for your Stribog can make or break your experience. You can make your Stribog a movie gun if you have it set up correctly. It will be a gun that everyone loves and that they want to shoot at the range. Stribog accessories are made by a variety companies, which we’ll list below.

Mounting Accessories
It can be difficult to mount accessories to a gun. It is important to have the right accessory setup for your needs. It is important that you can mount accessories ergonomically and have the right number of accessories for your purpose.
Optics Stribog SP9A1 Review
The Stribog’s sighting system is very simple. Picatinny rail runs at the top of receiver. This makes it easy to mount any optics you wish. You should keep in mind that mounting an optic too far forward can cause problems with activating the charging handle. This is just a thought. Most users will not have any issues if the gun is mounted far enough back.
Irons
Iron sights on Stribog can be a disappointment. These integrated sights are made of plastic and can be flipped up to offer two sighting options. They fold down like standard pistol sights, with a post, notch, and a ghost ring setup, similar to an HK-style front view with a normal peep sight rear.
The sights are made of plastic and feel cheap. They would probably snap if I dropped it. A couple of Picatinny slots would be nice to move it forward on the gun, so you can mount standard AR-15 folding sights like Magpuls, Troys or any other iron sights that meet your needs.
Lights
Mounting a light on this gun is one of my most difficult tasks. I use a Modlite with a Mod Button attachment. The Mod Button attaches to the Picatinny rail and is a small pressure switch. I have to reach quite high to reach my thumb on it. It is somewhat ambidextrous. However, if you have the gun set up for a right-handed shooter, your left handed will need to torque in very strange ways to get it to work. It was necessary to mount a switch at the rear of the activation lights to allow me to use it with my left arm. This is not the most ergonomic setup. This would have been a better solution if the handguard was positioned a bit further forward.

The barrel is eight inches long and the handguard extends about two to three inches beyond the barrel. I would have liked to see the handguard extended a bit further. It would have made it easier to see the light better and would have also allowed me to use the light more. They could also have shortened barrel to make the gun even smaller. This gun is a good choice if you intend to use it as a left-hand or right-hand gun. This might not be the right firearm for you if you are not ambidextrous and want to be able to use your right-hand or left-hand guns.
Control Devices Stribog SP9A1 Review
When I refer to “control devices”, I mean devices that allow you to control the gun more effectively. It will be either a vertical or an angled foregrip on a gun such as this. A vertical foregrip will move the gun into AOW or SBR status. Before you set up the gun, you’ll want to ensure you read all regulations. I chose a custom-designed angled grip that was 3D printed and perfectly matches the gun. This grip was specifically designed around the Stribog. The Stribog’s six-o’clock position has a Picatinny rail. It would have been nice to have M-Lok. This would have made the gun easier to use, and would have reduced its profile.
I will admit that the 3D-printed foregrip that I have is great. They match the texturing on the magwell as well as the pistol grip so it looks like it was designed for the gun. 3D printing has finally reached the point where it is possible to make small runs of accessories and accessories at a reasonable price while still producing low volumes. It’s not possible to import enough Stribog accessories to justify injection molding. However, it’s great to know that designers are creating amazing designs that would have been impossible just a few years ago. This gun will accept any angled or vertical foregrip with a Picatinny rail attachment.
Stribog SP9A1 Aftermarket Review
There are tons of aftermarket parts available for the SP9A1, as we mentioned in the Stribog accessories section. The aftermarket really liked this gun and it’s a fantastic little setup. It makes the gun a lot more fun for the end-user. I’m glad aftermarket vendors supported it. It’s great that you can purchase a gun for a reasonable price and then upgrade it to make it your own, without having to buy an AR-15 or other super common platform.
Shooting Experience
The wide bevel on Stribog’s magazine well makes it very smooth to insert a mag when you first pick it up. Although the bolt is heavier than normal, it still feels smooth. The SP9A1 is a blowback 9mm and therefore has a lot of weight behind it. Once that bolt is in place, the weight of both the bolt and the spring holding it in place make for a satisfying and authoritative lock. The gun feels natural and almost like an AR-15. It’s very easy to use and intuitive.
The light recoil that you feel when you pull the trigger will make you less surprised. Although this gun does have some recoil and bounce, it is not as heavy as 9mm blowbacks. 9mm blowback guns are more recoil-prone than a 556 AR-15. This is one exception. It may have a little more recoil but not much. It is still very easy to control and fun to shoot.
Stribog SP9A1 Review Suppressed
The gun becomes quieter and suppresses better when I have my 3-Lug suppressor. Although it isn’t the quietest gun I have ever shot, it is close enough. The SP9A1 is definitely a better gun than the CZ Scorpion or Ruger PC 9 Charger. It isn’t even close to the SIG MPX rotating-bolt firearm. It is priced at the same price as a Stribog, and I can’t imagine a better gun for suppression.
Once you have read the magazine, it is easy to eject and drop it. One thing I will mention is that Stribog magazines have been criticized by some people. There are solutions. You can purchase an aftermarket lower receiver. This will allow the gun to accept CZ Scorpion magazines. Overall, it’s a great gun to shoot and I’m glad I bought it.

Final Conclusions
Stribog is available in a price range of $700 without accessories. It can be found at a higher or lower price depending on market conditions. The average price is $700. Although the magazines are available at $20-30 per piece, I wish they offered more options. This firearm would be a great choice if it had different magazines. The reliability of the magazines makes this a difficult choice for home defense guns. It still has a lot to offer if it can be switched out to use the Scorpion mags.
This gun is a great choice if you are looking for a fun toy that you can shoot at the range. The gun’s aluminum upper receiver is extruded and gives it a good deal of weight. It just feels great. Despite the plastic safety levers and lower receivers, the gun feels great. Overall, you will feel like you are getting a well-built gun.
The Stribog SP9A1 is a great deal at this price point. It is my opinion that it offers the best value for a sub-gun. The magazines and the large handguard are my only complaints. These make it difficult to mount lights. Apart from that, I’m all for it. I hope you’ve enjoyed our Stribog SP9A1 Review. We’d love to hear your comments below.
