Today’s Sunday GunDay features Corbin Shells’ remarkable, record-setting Barrett.416. This is a big boomer with a 40″ Krieger barrel secured into a massive barrelblock. In 2019, Forum member Corbin Shell broke the Extreme Long Range (ELR). Corbin Shell, without sighters or warm up shots, put three (3) shots at 2118 yards on a 36″ x 36″ steel plate, setting a Cold Bore ELR World Record. The range was verified by three rangefinders, and the string of shots was witnessed by more than 20 shooters. In 2019, Applied Ballistics announced: “There’s a new official ELR World Record.” 2118 yards. The FCSA (Fifty Caliber Shooting Association) also recognized this as a record. NOTE: The ELR Record has been surpassed in recent years. Randy Newton, for example, shot a 2298 yard, 3-shot performance, in 2020. This record was set on March 2, 2019 at the ELR Southeast Shootout at the Arena Training Facility, Blakely, Georgia. The World Record attempt was done in compliance with ELR Central Rules. Joe Burdick (on the right) is standing next to Corbin Shell. Three hits on a 36” x36” plate. ELR Ain’t Cheap — $6.55 Cost per Shot
Corbin told us that in 2019 “each round fired cost about $6.55.” Bullet $3.05, primer $0.50 and powder $0.80. Cartridge case $1.00. Based on five firings. Barrel wear $1.20 based on 1000 barrel rounds. Editor’s Note: With the inflation we’ve experienced in the last 5 years and the major increases in primers and powder costs, we bet that today’s cost would be closer than $9.00 per round fired using the same formula, including barrel cost. Corbin tells: “This was taken in Blakely Georgia at the Arena Training Facility with good Ole Southern air.” The atmospheric conditions were: 70 degrees, 29.70-29.80 inches of mercury, 82% humid, and 1211 density altitude (DA). It has an integral Picatinny Rail which… allows mounting of… Tacom Charlie/Delta TARAC Prism System without the need for a bridge mount. ELR Cold Bore Shot Record Rules
Corbin Shell has set an ELR World Record for 2019. This record was shot according to a very specific set rules established by ELR Central, and industry leaders. Visit the ELR Central Facebook Page for more information on ELR records. You can see the latest ELR Record rifles there. * David Tubb’s 2200-yard 3-shot group, which was recognized as an FCSA record, came before Corbin Shell shot his monster.416 Barrett. David Tubb’s attempt with a different rifle on the same day, within minutes of David’s, did not meet ELR Central Rules. Corbin Shell is now officially recognized as the ELR Central World Record holder.
