Gavin Gear from UltimateReloader.com tested a Bergara B14R (carbon-covered version) recently at his private range. This rig produced impressive results using a variety Lapua and SK Ammo. Watch this video to see how the B14-R performs. The B14-R was a great gun, and it felt very familiar to me. It’s like shooting my centerfire match gun, but without the recoil! Gavin GearGavin reports that Bergara announced the B14R trainer at the 2020 SHOT Show. The concept? The concept? The result is a.22 LR that you can shoot all day without wearing out either your arm or wallet! It looks and feels like a precision centerfire rifle for long ranges. This rifle is a great training platform for serious long range shooters. The B14-R has a barrel that is 18? long and threaded at 1:16?. The single-stack.22 LR mag is the same size of a short action AICS magazine. The Bergara B14 shares Rem 700 specs so it’s compatible with Rem 700 stocks, and aftermarket triggers. The weight of the standard barrel without optics is 9.2 lbs, or 8.1 lbs for the carbon version shown here. The MSRP of the basic version is $1150.00, and the street price is $950.00. Gavin told us that he couldn’t wait for his B14-R to be out on my new 50-yard ridgeline to see how well it would perform using premium.22 LR ammo. Gavin was able achieve multiple sub-half inch groups at 50 yards using a bipod and rear bag. The best group shot using SK Match ammunition was a remarkable 0.22 inches. Ballistic-X software was used to measure the group shot (see below). This is an impressive 0.42 MOA. You can see Gavin shooting that 0.22 MOA at the 14:40 mark in the video above. Here are two more groups that are both under 0.5? at 50 yards. Lapua Center X on the left, SK Match to the right. Gavin says “with good conditions 0.35? Five-shot groups are easily achievable at 50 yards. “B14R Trigger Tested With TriggerScan TS-11Gavin test the Bergara’s Trigger with the TriggerScan TS-11, a sophisticated, high-tech gadget from DVORAK Instruments. Gavin says: “This trigger is very good, and mine can be adjusted to just under 2 lb for peak pull force. I ran a three-scan pass with the B14R trigger set to minimum [just over 2 pounds]. “Gavin says: “You can tell how consistent this trigger really is by the way the scan graph plots are overlapping! This trigger is perfect for an out-of the-box rifle. It’s also great to know I can swap out triggers at any time and use the exact same Remington 700 compatible trigger I’m using in my match guns. “Gavin Gear’s Closing Thoughts – More to Come
The Bergara B14R rimfire training rifle has exceeded my expectations. The B14-R is a full-size PRS, with the same basic features. However, it is chambered in.22 LR. I am amazed at the accuracy of this rifle when using Lapua and SK Match ammunition. It’s a confidence-inspiring experience. This rifle feels great and shoots well. I can’t get enough steel targets set up and I want to learn more about calculating dope to use with this rifle. Maybe I’ll consider competing in an NRL22 at some point.
