Sunday GunDay — King of point28 Miles — Rimfire ELR Match, MN
This is not the King of 2 Miles ELR race. It is the rimfire equivalent, the King of 0.28 miles (roughly 500 meters). The Rush Lake Range hosts a challenging rimfire match every year in Minnesota. This includes a PRS-style stage that can shoot out to 300+ yards and prone rimfire ELR firing out to the full “point2.8 mile”. The 2021 King Of Point2.8 Miles Match began on August 27, 2021 and ends today, August 29, 2021. Applied Ballistics LLC. Click HERE to view LIVE Video of the 8/29/21 match.

Tactical Rimfire,.22 LR Rimfire ELR
The King of point2.8 Miles is a unique hybrid type of competition, as it has been conducted in recent years. The match starts with multiple tactical-style stages featuring steel targets at different distances. Many of the steel targets have custom-painted faces. Some stages had support structures or barricades in PRS/NRL style. There have been specialty targets in the past, such as Accushot One-Shot Challenge (see right), which uses playing cards.
After the shorter stages, there’s the “point2.8 Miles” competition. This is where dozens of competitors line up to shoot distant targets. They start at 300 yards and move outward gradually to targets 0.28 miles away (about 600 yards). This is quite a challenge! This is what you need to know: At 500 yards, a.22 LR rimfire cartridge can travel at 610 fps, while a 10mph 90 degree wind can deflect the bullet 8.75ft from point-of-aim. *

Rimfire Competitors can order custom personal drag models (PDMs).
The King P28 match was attended by the Team from Applied Ballistics. They brought the AB Mobile Lab Trailer with its sensors, computers, and Doppler Radar equipment. The Doppler Radar was used to create custom ballistic profiles, also known as “Personal Drag Models”, for shooters of 90+.

Personal Drag Models (PDMs), which provide precise, precise ballistics data to shooters for their preferred ammo when fired in their match rifles, are called Personal Drag Models. This is particularly important for rimfire ammunition, which can start supersonic, then move transonic, and end well subsonic throughout its flight. Bryan Litz explains that the Doppler Radar system can track the bullet’s velocity down-range. The ballistic coefficient, drag and other factors are determined as the bullet’s velocity decreases.

Prizes galore for King-of-point2.8 Miles Competitors

The King of point2.8 miles Match has a large sponsor list, which means that there is always a huge prize table. Vudoo Gunworks, Accurate Rifle Systems and Accurate Rifle Systems provided Match Charity Rifles.

Range Tactical Gear sponsors 4-wheeled range carts. The price ranges from $395 to $650.
* Based on a.22-cal 40gr round with 1150fps muzzle velocity, 0.125 G1 BC and a.22-40gr bullet. Wind drift will be less for Rimfire bullets that are launched at higher MVs or have higher BCs.
