Patton described as “the greatest battle tool ever invented”, to commemorate this historic day in American history. Every serious collector of vintage rifles should own an M1 Garand. The CMP has received over 90,000. Garands from overseas arsenals in the past few years. This article will explain how to order an M1 Garand at the CMP and how to choose the right grade for you and your budget. How to Order an M1 Garand From the CMP
You must be a U.S. Citizen and a member or affiliate of an organization that has participated in a “Marksmanship Activity” to purchase an M1 Garand from the CMP. This basically means that you must join a gun club to participate in a clinic, match, or other activity. All ages must show proof of club membership and citizenship. For those over 60, however, the marksmanship requirement has been waived. Garands can only be ordered by mail or through official CMP Auctions. The CMP also offers brick-and-mortar locations where M1 Garands may be inspected, purchased, and transferred via your FFL (in accordance with state law). M1 Garand Barreled Actions & Aftermarket Barrels This can help you save money and is also useful if you are trying to build a rifle from high-grade wood or if you want to improve the accuracy of your rifle. The Civilian Marksmanship Program can help you order a M1 Garand barreled and complete M1 Garand rifles. You will need to meet the same eligibility requirements as for a complete rifle. Criterion says that this is a replacement barrel for the M1 Garand rifle. It is manufactured according to Mil-spec print #6535448. It retains the original G.I. It has a Parkerized finish and contour. All receiver threads are timed, all cuttings are made and all M1 Garand barrels hand-lapped. NOTE: Each barrel has a.010 short-chambered. A qualified gunsmith should headspace it. These Criterion replacement barrels are available at $295.00 and are legal for use in Service Rifle or John C. Garand matches.
