We would seriously consider the new A17 in.17 WSM if we were looking for a rifle to hunt prairie dog varmints and ground squirrels in high volumes. A rimfire cartridge means you don’t need to worry about handloading. A rimfire cartridge will last longer than a centerfire cartridge, which burns more powder. However, you need to shoot slowly and not over-heat your barrel. You won’t have any trouble finding primers. Unfortunately,.17 WSM ammunition is difficult to find at the moment, as we explain below. We checked five major online vendors on January 9, 2022 and found no.17WSM ammunition in stock at Midsouth USA, Natchez, Precision Reloading and Locked&Loaded.
