Sunday GunDay: Straight Pull Beretta BRX1 & BRX1Tactical

The Beretta BRX1 rifle is a modern weapon with unique features. It is a “straight-pull”, fast-cycling rifle that can quickly switch the bolt from the right to the left. It uses a rotating bolt with multiple lugs, similar to the AR-platform rifles. The closing system uses an 8-lug (or 16-lug in magnums) bolt. In the USA, three chamberings can be found:.308 win,.300 win mag, and.3006 Springfield. There are also some older production models in 6.5 Creedmoor. Multiple barrel lengths can be ordered: 20.1′” (51 cm), 22.4′” (57 cm), and 24.4′”. The barrel and chamber are cold hammer forged from a single piece of steel. The trigger can be set to three different pull weights, ranging from 2.1 pounds (950 g) to 3.3 lbs (1500 g). CLICK HERE to view the factory specifications and for more information.

Hunting rifle standards have shown that accuracy is good. Beretta guarantees a 3-shot sub-MOA guarantee for the BRX1. “The accuracy certificate for each firearm can be found online.” Testers have confirmed this rifle’s ability to fire three shots within 1” of each other at 100 yards.

The All4Shooters website has a great review of the Beretta BRX1. The testers were able get a 1.18″ five-shot group on a 100m outdoor range test. They also confirmed that the rifle was quick to cycle and operate. This means that there is no need for rotation or lever movements. This ensures a fast reloading thanks to a smooth bolt action. It was possible to cycle the gun with just one finger. The testers confirmed that the rifle can be changed from right-hand to a left-hand quickly. Combining the central safety with a left-handed or right-handed rifle, you can have it in a matter of seconds.
Overall, the testers were very impressed: “The new Beretta has everything you need: a muzzle-thread, a one piece Picatinny Rail, a high quality red-orange 5-round magazine, ambidexterity and barrel-change option, as well as a great straight-pull action.”
Field Test of the BRX1 Latest model in January 2024

This is a recent, good review (1/19/2024), by the BackFire Channel. The tester was pleased with the straight-pull, stating that the BRX1 does not “jostle” the rifle as it would do in a bolt action. This allows for smoother and quicker follow-up shots.

We were concerned about the BRX 1’s lack of a conventional frame. As you can see from the photo above, the scope rail is the only thing above the bolt when the bolt carrier is retracted. The Beretta team has thoroughly tested this rifle, including one rifle which saw 10,000 rounds fired in.300 Win Magum (see Backfire Video at 10:40). Beretta states that the “BRX1 successfully passed the NATO tests carried out by Beretta on military weaponry.” BRX1 features a locking system that is based on the experience gained in the military and police world.

The Beretta BRX1 rifles were recalled shortly after their original release in 2021. The problem was caused by users incorrectly installing bolt handles: “a user had reversed the charging hand on the bolt, without positioning it correctly in the seat.” A part has been modified to eliminate the problem.
SHORT VIDEOS BRX1 Features
Here are some “short” videos that you may find useful. The first video (top left) shows you how to quickly cycle the action. The second video, from Beretta Gallery Dallas, shows how to attach a bolt assembly. It is important to note that the hammer must be cocked/retracted prior to sliding the bolt assembly onto the action. The third video shows how to move the bolt from one side to another.

Tactical Version with Extended magazine TFB-TV Review

Beretta has released a new version of BRX1 with a camo finish for 2024. The BRX1 Tactical is the name of this new version. This camo BRX1 rifle, like other BRX1s, features a left/right interchangeable straight-pull mechanism that is extremely fast to cycle.
This video was released last week (1/17/24) and shows the TFB-TV testing the new Beretta Tactical. “This tactical version, a standout in its multicam finish is a specialized Beretta variant, which has gained a lot of popularity in Europe because of its precision, reliability, and durability. The BRX-1 Tactical has been enhanced with a 3D-printed magazine adapter that allows it to accept Magpul P-Mags. This increases its versatility. The video compares the BRX1 Tactical with the original European BRX-1, highlighting its main differences — primarily the stock configuration and a larger magazine.
