Taurus GX4 Review

This Taurus GX4 review will cover all the details that are important when choosing a gun for concealed carrying or self-defense. Taurus created the GX4 in order to compete with guns such as the SIG Sauer P365 or Springfield Armory Heckcat. Taurus has sold the G2C for years. It was a popular firearm that was well-received. However, the SIG P365 introduced the GX4 to compete with other guns like the SIG Sauer P365 and Springfield Armory Hellcat. Many were surprised by this, considering that the Taurus G2C costs roughly half of a P365.
Taurus has made strides in the US market to enhance its reputation. The company’s reputation for poor quality control and a poor fit and finish has been a problem in the past. They have been working to improve this. The Taurus G3C and Taurus G3 have a slightly better finish than their G2C series. Nearly everyone has praised the Taurus TX22 semiautomatic pistol as a reliable.22-caliber pistol. This is not an easy feat for anyone who is familiar with semiautomatic pistols.22 caliber. Taurus will continue to improve the GX4? Let’s find the answer in our Taurus GX4 Review.
Role-Based Offsize
This gun is designed for concealed carry. This gun is not intended for competition or duty use. If they do carry it, it’s likely to be a backup firearm. It could be used in that capacity. Most people who read this Taurus GX4 review want to conceal carry. There are many places where concealed firearms can be carried. Each position has its pros and cons.

IWB Carry
The Taurus GX4 can be carried in the IWB fashion, which is very easy for most people. It is a small gun, but it is very slim. Its slim profile will be crucial for concealment. The grip is relatively short due to the 11-round grip. Although it is a bit more difficult to conceal, you can add a longer magazine. However, there are other benefits. IWB carry is a great option for the GX4.
Appendix IWB Carry
Appendix IWB Carry is a subset IWB carry that offers a little more concealment and makes it easier to reach the gun. However, there are some drawbacks. To make this style of carrying as effective as possible, you will need a holster specifically designed for it. The Taurus GX4’s profile is relatively small, which means that the gun’s overall length and slide are not very long. This may seem like a good idea, but it’s not. This is because if you have a short gun with an appendix, the grip should be high enough so that you can reach the firearm and remove it from the holster without having to dig into your waistband.
A short slide means that the gun will sit higher on your waistline and much of its weight will be above the beltline. This is due to the magazine that is fully loaded and the top half of your slide.
Tip Out
This will cause the gun’s tipping point to be higher than your body. If you have a bit of a belly it will push the gun further out. Then gravity will do its job and force the muzzle to tip back into the groin. This can become uncomfortable with time. This pressure can be distributed by using a longer holster, but there are other ways to do it.

Are you using a holster with proper rounding? This will make it much more comfortable than a holster without a wedge. A wedge attached to the back of the Holster will make it much more comfortable if you are carrying it in an appendix location. Is this a universal rule? It does not apply to everyone, but at least 98 per cent of people. Although there are exceptions to every rule it is still a good guideline for the vast majority.
OWB Carry
The Taurus GX4 is a good choice if you are looking for a small, slim gun. You will need an OWB holster that fits very closely to the body. This is likely to be a pancake-style holster. Paddle holsters of any kind, including the type, are not suitable for concealment. You will need a substantial cover garment to conceal your firearm. It is possible. Yes, it is possible. However, you won’t have the same margin of error with a properly-designed OWB holster.
Carry in your pocket
The Taurus GX4 can be carried in your pocket, but it’s unlikely to be the best choice for most people. I am six feet tall and wear straight-cut pants. For someone of my height, this gun will be a bit too big for someone wearing regular-sized clothes. (I also weigh 175 lbs, just in case you need more reference. Pocket carry with a Taurus GT4 may be more appropriate for you if you have larger pants or are a more important person.
Features
The gun can hold 11 rounds with the flushed-cut magazine. However, Taurus also sells 13 round magazines that will increase the grip and improve your grip. You might find that you can get a great grip with the standard flush fit magazine if your hands are small.
Magwell
The interior of the Taurus GX4 mag well has no angle. However, it’s not too important as your hand will likely extend past the grip and serve as a funnel to get the rounds in the gun. Your hand becomes the gun’s mag well. Despite my hands being extended below the grip, the design prevents me from dropping the magazine.
My grip usually prevents magazines from falling free with guns like the Hellcat and SIG P365. However, I have never noticed this issue with my GX4. The magazine is always out when I drop it. If someone has slightly bigger hands than mine, it could be an issue. Two indentions are located on the grip of the magazine well. These indentations can be used to help you remove the magazine from a malfunction.
The magazine baseplate is a major complaint in this Taurus GX4 Review. The magazine’s baseplate is very slick. This means that despite the gun having indentations to assist you, they don’t help as much because the magazine itself has an extremely slick baseplate. It would be easier to rip the magazine if it had more texture.
Grip/Ergonomics
When it comes to firearms, ergonomics are often misunderstood. People believe that a gun should feel comfortable in their hands. While this is great, you want a gun that is easy to control. A gun that feels great in your hands but doesn’t allow you to control it well is not a good thing. A gun that feels great in your hand but allows for excellent control is preferred. We want the best of both: a gun that feels great in your hand and allows you to have superior control.
General feeling
Overall, the Taurus GT4 is a pleasant to hold. The tang’s shape is great. It gives me a great grip and is not too uncomfortable. It has a good distance between the backstrap and the front strap, which gives me a lot more control. This could be a problem if you have small hands, but the gun’s ergonomics are excellent for people with larger hands.
The grip reminds me of a miniature version of the CZ P-10 C. A higher grip will give you more control over the firearm. The GX4 is the only gun in this class that I have seen with a grip like this. It’s a great design from Taurus.

Backstraps
Taurus GX4 is a unique gun because it has removable backstraps. You have the option of a small or large gun. I have the small installed on my GX4 at the moment and it works well for me. You can also install a backstrap if you need a little more grip. The trigger reach cannot be changed, which I find disappointing. If I could increase the trigger reach by a little, I would. This gun is still a world-class gun in this regard, as they don’t offer any adjustable back traps.
Beavertail
The beavertail was mentioned earlier. While this gun doesn’t have a exact tail, it does have nice, deep tang. Deep tangs can sometimes cause problems if you place your thumb over the rear sight of your gun and then let it fall into place once it is out of its holster. This can make your grip inconsistent when you draw with this method. Nevertheless, this issue is not present on the Taurus GX4.
Texturing
The texture is one of my personal highlights in this Taurus GX4 review. The texture of this gun is sandpaper-like. It can be felt all around the grip. This texture is very similar to the texturing on both the SIG P365 gun and the Springfield Hellcat. It provides a great grip but isn’t too aggressive in a way that can cause discomfort. This texturing is best for people with very soft hands or very calloused hands. It’s an excellent texture all around.
Sights
The sights on the Taurus GT4 are quite impressive. I like the image they offer. It has a white front and then a blackout back with serrations. These sights have a very shallow profile, but they do the job. It has a square notch and post design, and it is perfect. It has everything you need and nothing that you don’t. Both the sights are made of metal, which is a nice addition. If I had this gun, I would replace the front sight with either a night-sight or a fully blacked out front.
Aftermarket
The Taurus GX4 accepts Glock sights, which is a nice feature. This is a great feature if you need to replace the sights. There are many Glock options available and you will be able find the Taurus GX4 sights that you like. This was a great move by Taurus. Taurus gets points for adding Glock sight cuts to this review.
Red-dot options
Taurus currently does not have an optics-ready model. However, I expect that their Toro version of the firearm will be available in a few months after they have accumulated some sales and established a reputation for it.
Controls
The controls are as important as the ergonomics of a firearm and the grip. Being able reach and safely operate the controls will allow you to use the firearm effectively.

Mag release
The Taurus GX4 magazine release is quite standard. It’s reversible and placed so that I can reach it without breaking my grip. The magazine release is well placed and will work for all hand sizes. For example, I have an extra half inch on my thumb to reach the Taurus GX magazine release. The only thing I can see as an issue is someone with large hands. They might have to give up their grip to reach the magazine release because it sits far back.
Slide Stop
I was surprised by the slide stop on my Taurus GX4. This slide stop is the most slick I have ever seen on a gun. It’s not difficult to reach or grab, but it is slick. It’s an excellent design. The profile of this slide stop is very shallow. It is very close to the gun’s frame and slide, but it can still be dropped or pressed up to manually lock the slide. Although this is a disadvantage for many, it means that the lock is made from plastic and is not going to rust since it is only plastic.
Slide stops on most guns, including MMPs and Glocks, will look like crap. Slide stops are easily damaged by oils from your fingers, so they become shiny and seamless very quickly. The slide stop on the Taurus GX4 is easy to use and removes any worries.
This slide is one of my favorite. This design has one problem. It would have been nice to see them create this atmosphere. They could have done this quickly, but it’s so low-profile. It’s not a problem for me as a right-handed shooter. This is something that you might not like if you are a left-handed shooter. Nevertheless, it is not the only competitor that has this feature.
Slide Taurus GX4 Review
The gun’s slide is very similar to the SIG Sauer P365. It has a strong finish and the slide serrations are not aggressive but bold enough. Taurus did a great job designing slide serrations that work well and are effective, but don’t feel sharp. Some slide serrations may feel a bit too aggressive while others aren’t aggressive enough.
These seem to be in the perfect sweet spot, and I love the design. The slide appears to be a bit heavier than the recoil spring. Despite this, it is very easy to rack the slide with this gun. Although it isn’t as easy as the Smith and Wesson 380 Shield gun, it’s still much easier than guns like the Hellcat.
All Ergonomics
The ergonomics of Taurus GX4 are excellent. The controls are easy-to-use and the gun’s grip allows for controlled shooting. These are the best aspects of this gun. This gun has truly surprised me. I didn’t expect to give a Taurus this positive rating at this point. I was expecting there to be more negatives with this firearm, but they are not what I see.

Review of the Taurus GX4
The trigger on the Taurus GTX4 is quite good. You are likely familiar with the triggers for the Taurus G2C or G3 series. These triggers are not the same as this one. Those triggers have restrike capabilities, which I’m sure some wanted for this gun. You won’t be disappointed once you feel the trigger of the Taurus GX4. We feel a slight take-up when we begin with the trigger pull. Then, we hit a wall. The wall is almost immediately broken by a relatively clean and light break.
There is a long reset from there that resets at the wall and has a clean break. This trigger is clean. This is the best way to describe it. This trigger is for you if you enjoy a hard break in your firearm. This trigger is not for you if you like the rolling break. However, you will love it. Due to its light pull weight, it doesn’t have a hard wall. This is yet another highlight of the Taurus GX4 Review. Taurus did a great job with this trigger. It’s going to be the perfect compromise between a stiff trigger like that of the Springfield Armory Hellcat and a soft, rolling trigger like SIG P365.
Aftermarket
This gun was only out for a few weeks when I wrote this Taurus GX4 review. This gun has not seen much aftermarket buildup. You can use Glock sights with your firearm, as we mentioned earlier. This gives it an advantage over other firearms on sale. Despite this, I expect the aftermarket will embrace this gun fully.
The gun also comes at a slightly higher cost than the G2C or G3C series. This means that the gun is likely to be purchased by more people than the G2C and G3C series. This is why I expect a huge aftermarket to emerge for the Taurus GX4. It’s just not there at the moment.
Maintenance Taurus GX4 Review
The Taurus GX4 requires a different approach to maintenance than other firearms. This is mostly due to the take down method. Lock the slide to take out the Taurus GX4. Next, remove the magazine and make sure that the gun is empty. Once you have made sure that everything is in order, turn your attention to the right side of your gun to see a take down pin that must be rotated counterclockwise using a flathead screwdriver.
It is a major drawback that you will need a flathead screwdriver in order to disassemble this gun. It is a great feature for holster-makers, as it makes the weapon look much more low-profile. It makes it easier for me to design the holster. It’s hard to believe that you would clean your gun if you didn’t have the tools you need. It’s not often. This is a negative review for the Taurus GX4. In reality, it’s not that significant. It’s up to you to decide if this is a good idea for you.
Aesthetics
This gun is very attractive from an aesthetic standpoint. Although the group looks a bit odd, the trigger shoe’s shape and the slide’s style and serrations are perfect. Although this gun isn’t a timeless beauty, the look suits the modern age we live in.
This gun is a beautiful, classic firearm that you will want to pass on to your grandkids. No. But is it a decent-looking piece of carry? Yes. The gun’s styling and texturing make perfect sense. The gun’s appearance is excellent. This gun would be twice as expensive, but it is a great-looking gun for the price.
Shooting
The Taurus GX4 shoots a lot like you would expect. The Taurus GX4 is a smaller gun so it has a lot more recoil. Despite its small size, the gun still recoils well. The Taurus GX4 has a lot of recoil. It is still very manageable and comparable to guns like the SIG P365 or the Springfield Armory Hellcat. It is easy to keep the gun flat and my pinky rests right on the magazine baseplate. This gun can hold half of my pinky, which makes a huge difference in recall control. I am certain that the Taurus GX4 will be easier to control if I get the 13-round magazines.

It shoots very well. It has easy-to-use sights. You can easily swap out the front sight to get a better one and still have a great sight picture without spending too much money. The trigger is great for what it is. The only problem I have is that some shooters might take a little longer to reset the gun. However, I do not have a problem with the reset. Most firearms instructors will tell me that this is the correct way to shoot.
Final Thoughts Taurus GX4 Review
This gun is simply amazing. I never would have thought I would consider getting a Taurus concealed carry gun, but the GX4 could be my concealed carry gun. It would make me a concealed carry gun every day. No. No.
My local shop sold this gun for $350. This gun is an incredible value after-tax. The quality is comparable to guns like the SigP365 or the Springfield Hellcat. Those guns do have better sights. These guns are about equal in every other way. The Taurus is hard to ignore for its price point. I am not someone who will spend a lot to get a better gun. If I had three guns, I don’t know which one would win. The Taurus is just as good at its $350 price.
