Taurus GX4 vs G2C & G3C

The G2C, Taurus’ 9mm conceal carry staple, has been a well-known design. The Taurus G3C is an updated version of G2C. You can see some minor differences in our Taurus G3C and G2C comparison. The Taurus GX4 is their latest entry in the concealed carry market. Taurus’ conceal carry line-up is enhanced by the GX4.
Although the G2C has a similar caliber and capacity, there have been many design changes. These differences aren’t meant to make the gun better, or worse, but they do make it significantly different. These differences will be covered in today’s Taurus GX4 Vs G2C comparison.

Both guns can be concealed carried firearms. The Taurus GX4 is a bit more personal in terms of the roles it can play. Taurus G2C has 12-round magazines, while G3C has them. Despite having similar capacities, the guns have different sizes.

The Taurus G2C, fully loaded, is three-and a half ounces heavier that the GX4. While it isn’t important to carry a gun in your waistband with a belt, it becomes an important factor if you intend to carry the gun unbelted. The GX4 will give you an advantage if you are carrying it at the gym or on the go.
Height
The two most important dimensions for concealment and concealed carry are the height of your firearm (the distance between the top of your slide and the bottom of the magazine) and the width and length of the grip. Both categories are significantly larger for the Taurus G2C.
The grip’s width is a tenth of an in larger than the normal. This may not sound like much, but it can make concealed carry more difficult for some body types. The most important difference is the height of the firearm. The Taurus G2C is more than half an inch taller that the GX4, so it will be easier to carry the GX4 in your pocket than the G2C.
These differences in size might not be as important if you’re comparing GX4 vs Taurus G2C for inside the waistband carry. However, they can play a role if your Taurus GX4 is being carried inside the pocket. The Taurus GX4 will have a significant advantage if both guns are close to the larger end in terms of concealability. These guns will be easier to conceal than full-size firearms if you can easily conceal them.
Ergonomics overall
A firearm’s ergonomics are crucial. Many people believe ergonomics refers to how the gun feels. It is true that ergonomics dictate how the gun lets you apply pressure in certain areas to shoot the gun efficiently. Good ergonomics may not allow you to control the firearm properly. Sometimes firearms that feel great in the hand will also allow you to have proper control. This will vary from one person to another, so be aware of this before you buy.

Frame
These firearms have a very different frame. The Taurus G2C’s frame fills your hand much better than that of the Taurus GTX4. The Taurus GX4 has a smaller grip. There’s no other way. Modularity will be a key difference between these guns. The Taurus GX4 comes with a modular backstrap. This allows you to swap out the strap with a smaller or larger size. I like the small backstrap but it is nice to have the option of installing the larger strap for those who want it.
The Taurus GX4 has a pinky extension that allows you to reach your entire hand on the gun. It works well for me, as I have medium-to-large hands. However, if you have large hands, the Taurus G2C will likely allow your pinky to hang out. My pinky is only able to sit on the Taurus GX4 halfway. I have to squeeze my grip onto the gun to get there. This is a drawback to the GX4.
They do make a 13-round magazine which will allow you to put your whole pinky on the gun’s grip. The G3C’s grip extension will conceal the 13-round magazine in a similar way. You’ll also get an additional two rounds in this magazine. This means that you will receive 13 rounds of the Taurus GX4 instead of 12 in the G2C.

Texture Taurus GX4 vs G2C
The Taurus G2C is more aggressive in texture than the G3C. It feels more like a 200-grit, whereas the grip of the Taurus GX4 feels like 600-grit. Both guns have a texture that wraps the entire grip. Both guns have a nice texture that covers the entire grip and helps to reduce recoil. The GX4 will have a more comfortable texture inside the waistband.
Slide
Both guns’ slides have forward-cocking serrations. The forward-cocking serrations on the Taurus G2C are not present. The GX4’s serrations are more effective than those on G3C.
G3C’s cocking serrations don’t offer much grip space and are small. They are fine for press checks but not large enough to manipulate the slide. The GX4’s slide is much wider than the Taurus G2C or G3C. This is a huge advantage when you are cocking a firearm. It’s much easier to rack the slide with the G2C than the GX4.
Sights
The factory sights for the Taurus GX4 (and G3C) are identical. These sights have a white front dot and a serrated blacked out rear. The rear features a square notch. The Taurus G2C has three-dot plastic sightings. These sights are usable but not great. The G3C and GX4 sights are superior to those on the G2C.
Aftermarket
The Taurus GX4 as well as G3C both use Glock sight cuts. This means that these pistols can accept nearly any aftermarket sight. There are many aftermarket sights available that will fit on Glocks. This means they have more options for aftermarket sights than any other pistol. Taurus G2C on the other hand doesn’t offer many aftermarket options. The options you have are very limited and not very good.

Red-Dot Optics
The Taurus G2C does not have red-dot optics, but the Taurus GX4 as well as the Taurus G3C come with an optics mounting solution. The Taurus G3C will have more optics than the Taurus GX4. This is due to the slide’s size and width. Taurus G3C’s slide is wider so that the gun can hold more optics.
Controls Taurus GX4 vs G2C
Taurus G2C and G3C are the only options for thumb safety. Both guns have protection on one side of the frame. The thumb safety is easily accessible for right-handed shooters. It is well placed. It can be used just like a 1911 safety. This design has a downside. It is not very handy. If you are left-handed, or have ever used your gun with your left, you will need to work harder to control the safety. The Taurus GX4 does not have a safe option, so we cannot even discuss it.

Trigger Taurus GX4 Vs G2C
These guns have very different triggers. We’ll be covering the Taurus G3C trigger and G2C trigger as one. The trigger for the Taurus GX4 is quite different.
Taurus G3C/G2C Trigger
The trigger of the Taurus G3C trigger is oddly striker-fired. It is a double-action/single-action trigger mechanism. This is not the norm for striker-fired guns. The gun will always be pre-cocked when you are carrying it. However, if the striker fails in its attempt to ignite a round, the gun will have double-strike capabilities. Initially, you will pull the trigger. It will be single-action. If the striker fails to ignite a round, your next trigger pull is double unless the slide is rung to re-cock and eject the unfired rounds.
This feature is not useful to me. Most modern training doctrine requires that you rack the slide to expend the round that failed. This feature might be useful to you. You’ll feel a very slight take-up when you pull the trigger. It’s also going to go very far back. The trigger reach of this gun is quite short if you measure it from the point where you feel the trigger reach to the rear of your grip. The trigger reach will be significantly longer if measured from the front of the trigger pull.
You’ll feel a clean break once you reach that wall. Although it does feel plasticky, it isn’t horrible. It’s a decent trigger, but nothing spectacular. It resets to the wall point and you’ll feel that clean break again. Double-action mode will cause the trigger to behave like a springy, spongy striker-fired trigger.
Taurus GX4 Trigger
The GX4 trigger has a very short and light take-up. This trigger takes up very little, so the GX4’s true reach is much further forward than it appears, despite the gun being smaller. You’ll hit a formidable wall once you grab that trigger slap.
This wall is very strong and you will feel a clean break. The break is plasticy but also flawless. It has no creep or sponginess. It resets at the wall and it’s a clean break.
The trigger on the Taurus GX4 is amazing. This gun is a great buy and outperforms other guns at a higher price.
Slide Lock
Both the slide locks for these guns are located on the left side. There is no ambidextrous option. The Taurus GX4’s slide lock is located in a spot that you can reach with your thumb. This may pose a problem if your hands are very short. However, if your thumbs are long enough, it will be easy to reach. This gun has one of my favorite features. It’s very easy to use. It’s easier than any other slide to drop the slide. They have the right geometry.
Taurus G2C is a bit more difficult to reach. This is because the slide lock is located right in front the thumb safety. It might cause interference depending on your thumb’s shape and size. The slide stop is a bit more slippery and harder to push down to lower the slide. The slide lock is a win for the Taurus GX4 over the G2C.

Magazine Release
These magazines have very similar magazine releases. Both magazine releases can be reversible, and they have very similar geometry. Both magazines are sharp at the front. It’s impossible to give a preference to one gun over another when it comes down to this. However, I will admit that the GX4 might be more difficult to drop the magazine onto. This is because if your hands are larger than normal, the magazine will not fall through. This issue could also be on the Taurus G2C if you have large hands.
Magazine Well
These guns don’t have any bevels inside the magazine. The Taurus G2C/G3C have the smallest bevel, but that’s it. This is not enough to help you reload the gun. Your hands should be able to cup around the grip a little, so you can use your hand as a funnel or mag well to insert the magazine into your gun.
Quality
When it comes to quality, there is no comparison between the Taurus GX4 and the G2C. The GX4’s quality is far better than the G3C or G2C. Although the slide’s finish is very similar to that of the Taurus, G3C, the material in the frame seems to be a little better than the Taurus GX4. The quality of components such as the trigger and magazine release seemed slightly better. I will also mention that the Taurus GX4 has a more premium feel due to the texturing.

Aftermarket
There are many more aftermarket parts available for the Taurus G2C/G3C. Nevertheless, I expect that this will change quickly as the Taurus GX4 is more widely available.
Aesthetics
I have never found Taurus G3C or G2C firearms appealing from an aesthetic standpoint. They’re sort of the ugly duckling. The Taurus GX4 on the other hand has a cool, trendy look. Is this gun going to look great in five years? It looks great now, although I’m not sure. Your shoe is beautiful. It has a great slide and clean lines.

Shooting
These guns are easy to shoot, with the exception of the GX4. It was quite a surprise to me. Taurus GX4 ergonomics are great for pushing your hand high into the grip. It functions in the same way as the CZ P-10 C. This is a great feature for a small, easy to use firearm, especially for beginners. This will force you to use the correct grip every time.
Taurus G3C, and G2C have more recoil than necessary for their size. I say a lot of recoil because there are guns like the Springfield Armory Hellcat or the SIG Sauer P365 which shoot surprisingly well for their sizes. The Taurus G3C, and G2C have more recoil than one would expect from such a large gun. The Taurus GX4 shoots a lot smoother, with a better recoil impulse and a gun that is easier to keep on target.
Price/Value
A GX4 can be purchased at a retail store for $350, with a MSRP of $392. The G2C’s MSRP is $300, while the G3C’s is comparable at $340. Both cost $50 less than MSRP, unless a Taurus has a promotion. The GX4 is my personal favorite, as it offers better value due to its superior quality and design. The Taurus GX4 is a better value than the G2C and G3C.
