The revolver category is changing forever. Taurus is changing the way we view the platform with the release of two new optics-ready revolvers: the 605 TORO (or 856 TORO). Perhaps it’s more accurate to say that Taurus is changing how we view the platform downrange. Taurus 605 TORO and Taurus 856 TORO Revolvers Both models are based on the Defender series and share many of the same features and are made from stainless steel. This includes the barrel, frame, and cylinder. The TORO revolvers can withstand any environment and are strong. The revolvers have a 3 inch barrel and weigh 23.5 ounces. This makes them ideal for conceal carry. The revolvers are distinguished by their optic-ready frame. Utilizing Taurus’s T.O.R.O. Taurus Optic Ready Option (Taurus Optic Plate) allows for mounting popular optics on the pistols. Each model also includes a fixed-trough-style rear and replaceable front sight to provide a solid backup. Where the two differ is in the chambering and subsequent width/weight/capacity. The 605 chambers in.357 mag/.38 Special +P with a capacity for 5 rounds. The 856, however, is chambered only in.38 Special +P and can hold 6 rounds. The 605 measures 1.41 inches in width and weighs 23.52 ounces, whereas the 856 measures 1.40 inches and weighs 23.5 ounces. Taurus also stated that they have partnered with industry-leading companies to ensure that holsters are available immediately. You won’t need to wait for months to find the right holster that will fit your TORO revolver. You can choose from a matte black or matte Stainless finish for each model. Editor’s note: For some, an optic on revolvers may seem out of place. It is just as appropriate on a semiauto as it is on a revolver. Remember that proper aim is just as important with a revolver as it is with semi-autos. An optic is both a great tool for novice shooters and a valuable addition for more experienced shooters. A red dot can be zeroed to certain grain weights or types of ammo. A traditional fixed-sight revolver can’t. Availability The Taurus 856 TORO or 605 TORO revolvers can be purchased now at a MSRP of $445.99 to $470.99 depending on the model and options.
