Tech Tip: Measure your shoulder “Bump” using Harrell’s Bump Collar

Although the Harrell brothers don’t cut the die to specification, they do carry a wide range of dies with slightly different internal dimensions. The Harrells will select the right die from their inventory to fit your fired brass. Harrell’s full-length, full-length dies are $115.00 plus shipping due to their quality and perfect fit. These are currently available for PPC family (6mmBR, 6mm Dasher and 6.5×47 lapua). The Harrell brothers offer a nice bonus item with every full-length die — a neat, small shoulder bump measuring device, as shown in the photo below. Hornady also sells a stand alone tool for the same purpose, but the Harrell’s bump collar makes it easier and quicker. Simply place the Harrell’s bump collar on your deprimed bag and measure the OAL using your calipers. Next, size the case using your full-length die. Your die should be set so that the shoulder moves back approximately.005. .0015? For most applications. Semi-auto guns may require more shoulder bump (e.g..003?.).
