This safe’s top needed to be clear so that it would not pop open when activated. These issues can be a problem in certain living situations, so an alternative design was needed. The SnapSafe GlideVault is here. The SnapSafe GlideVault is a less intimidating gun shop that can be used as a living room. It also meets the strict security standards required by gun owners. The GlideVault also has quick access features like a touchpad combo, spring-loaded drawer, and a drawer that opens automatically without the user having to do anything. This allows you to call 911, close a door, or render medical assistance. This safe was first presented to me at the Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous in October 2021. I finally got a sample to test after six long months. Initial impressions I was immediately struck by the GlideVault’s light-grey exterior when I took it out of its box. The color scheme blends well with almost any interior decor and kind of disappears into the background. It’s hidden in plain sight, if you will. It was neutral in color and had a texture that could be used to hold interior paint. If you wanted to, you could paint it to match its mounting location and put a plant on top. It will look nothing more than a pedestal with shiny faces. The bottom of the GlideVault is pre-drilled for mounting to any solid surface. If you are a handy user of a drill and don’t mind a little work, the GlideVault can be mounted under a cabinet, adding another layer of concealment and convenience. It also includes a tiedown cable that allows for greater portability and use in a vehicle. The unit is powered by four AAA batteries, which power the electronics and the release. The safe’s locking compartment houses the battery compartment. This prevents tampering. Each GlideVault includes a set of backup keys and a backup USB port to supply power via a rechargeable bank or 5V supply. The combo pad’s backlighting is fast so you can expect a long life span. The SnapSafe also gives you ample warning if the batteries are becoming weak. Operation I opened the contents and set my combination. Next, I used the keys included to open the unit. Then I pressed the set button inside the drawer. After entering my code twice, the unit flashed once more and I was good to go. These instructions are printed inside the drawer for those who have a tendency to lose them. It is as easy as entering your code and pressing enter to operate the safe. The first tap does not count as it only wakes up the safe. In theory, you should enter your first digit twice. This lesson is very easy to remember, so it wasn’t a concern. After learning how to press buttons, I measured the internal storage space at 9.5″ x 13″, which is large enough for a large hand cannon or a pair compact pistols. You can even store spare magazines, valuables, or other items in the fully open space. The GlideVault also includes an anti-marring matt that protects the finishes of finer items like wedding rings and your Desert Eagle. I ended my testing day by replacing my old nightstand safe and placing the same stack of magazines that I “will get around to reading” on top. Now I have a safe place to store my reading material, and an efficient way to secure my home protection pistol. The best part is that an intruder won’t even notice it.
