Only a few AKs are still being imported into the USA from original military arsenals. Their Mini Beryl pistols and rifles are semi-auto clones from Poland’s military arms. However, not everyone wants an AK that is chambered in 5.56. Recognizing that Americans prefer AKs in their original calibers, FB Radom began sending their export Beryl model, the Beryl M762, over to them. Photo:WikipediaOriginally developed for sale to the Nigerian military, the Beryl M762 has all the modern features, upgrades and build quality as FB’s 5.56 guns, but is compatible with any standard AK magazine or M43 cartridge. The Beryl M762 was proven to be as effective in fighting Boko Haram in Nigeria, just like the Pole’s Beryls. These rifles are now available in the USA and offer American shooters the best of both Beryls.Beryl M762 OriginsOur previous posts about FB Radom, 5.56 Beryls and Beryl M762 will provide a deeper look at the weapons’ shared development history. There was not much difference between them and the Beryl M762. All guns in this family, including the 5.56 Beryl, are based on AKM. The Soviet AK-74 saw some more significant dimensional changes than the AKM, but the Beryl was a rechambering project and modernization project for their 7.62×39 AKs. Its production of the Beryl allowed Poland to arm its military. The Poles no longer needed 7.62 guns, but factories that can produce AKs are able to export them to other countries. Nearly everyone prefers 7.62×39 AKs when it comes to export AKs due to the availability of ammunition and magazines that have been spread around the globe for more than half a century. This is the one thing that the Nigerian army brass and American shooters had in common. FB Radom added the semi-auto BerylM762 to their U.S. catalogue. The Nigerian government is currently viewing the Beryl M762. Photo by Defense News Nigeria on TwitterThe Beryls have been a hit with the Nigerian armed forces since they were received in 2015. They are rugged and simple like any other Kalashnikov, but can be equipped with modern optics, accessories and fire rifle grenades. The Beryl is modern enough that it can give the Nigerian armed force an edge in combat, while still maintaining the same training and logistical supplies as their older standard AK rifles. Nigeria and FB Radom signed a contract to allow local production of the Beryl. However, it is not known if the project is still being pursued or if it has been canceled. Nigerian soldiers are equipped with Beryl M762s with drum magazines. Photo by Defense News Nigeria on TwitterThe Beryl M762 ImportThe semi-auto import version, the Beryl 762S M1, is the semi-auto version of the Beryl M762. The same can be said for the Beryl 223, S M1. Both are imported in “sporter” configurations, and then converted to be compatible with normal magazines and furniture. Both are compatible with the Beryl optics rail and feature an enlarged safety selector as well as a mag release. Although the Beryl handguards are proprietary in design, the pistol grip and stock can be replaced with any standard AK components, Polish or not. The barrel length of the Beryl M762s is two inches shorter than that of the 5.56 version. However, 16 inches provides enough velocity for 7.62×39. The Beryl M762 is a standard Beryl that accepts standard AK mags, ammo, and the Beryl 762 S M1 as an imported gun. The Beryl M762 was well-made from a prominent manufacturer. It is a desirable option due to its unique provenance with respect to the Polish and Nigerian militaries as well as its practical upgrades. The Beryl M762 is, like all FB Radom guns. It is more expensive than other AKs on market. You will need to decide if its uniqueness and functional upgrades are worth the extra cost. This gun will appeal to both military-clone collectors as well as hardcore shooters looking for a reliable AK with more modern features than any other 7.62×39 import currently on the market. For more on the importer, please visit armsofamerica.com.Other AK Import OptionsNEXT STEP: Download Your Free Storm Tactical Printable Target Pack 62 Printable MOA Targets with DOT Drills – Rifle Range in YARDS This impressive target pack from our friends at Storm Tactical contains 62 printable targets for rifle and handgun range use.
