Click on the photo to view a larger imageErnie Bishop’s pride & joy is this specialty pistol, nicknamed “Batman” due to the black carbon-fiber stock that looks like the Batmobile. This is a very sophisticated handgun. The Batman pistol is complete with scope and weighs less than 7.5 pounds thanks to its ultra-light stock. The carbon stock measures 6 inches at the fore-end and weighs only one pound. Ernie says that the gun shoots great and is easy to use, especially when using my SEB MAX rest. Ernie added a “field usable rear-grip to the stock so he could also shoot it prone from a tripod. The Batman pistol is chambered to take the 6mm “Long Dasher”, which is a 6mm 40-shouldered variant the 6.5×47 Lapua. Ernie loads Berger Hybrid bullets of 105gr loaded with Hodgdon H4350 powder.
Eric Wallance from Nawaka Firearms crafted the gun. It features an XP100 action, Jewell trigger and a 15-long, Brux 1:18?-twist barrel. This gun doesn’t have a traditional recoil lever. To save weight, Wallace, a gunsmith, cut a lug out of the XP100 action. The rig also carries a Sightron Inc S-III 6-24X56mm scope with Kelbly rings and custom +20 MOA rail.Long Dasher Wildcat
The “Long Dasher 40” is shown at right. Forum member Sunbuilder created this wildcat. This is very similar in appearance to Ernie Bishop’s chambering. However, there may be minor variations in reamer design (e.g. freebore). Dave Kiff from Pacific, Tool & Gauge made Sunbuilder’s 6-6.5×47 Improved (aka the “Long Dasher”) reamer. This wildcat cartridge increases the 6.5×47 necked down by 6mm by about 2.0 grains. With the 40? shoulder. We just need the tactical guys to start running this improved cartridge with its original, 6.5mm bore. Here are three FIVE shot groups at 500 yards, shot using Ernie’s Batman pistol.
