A crowd of Athlon Outdoors gun writers gathered in the Teton Valley last Oct to see what was new in the gun industry at the annual Rendezvous. The Canik METE series Imported from Turkey by Century Arms, the METE 9mm is a polymer-framed striker-fired 9mm. It comes with enough accessories to make Bill Mays proud. The METE’s polymer hard side case contains three magazines, flared magwells, mag loaders, punches, and small, medium and large grip extensions. To get the details on the new Canik, Century Arms’ Adam Ruonala, Canik importer, was available for me to meet. Nino Bosaz, Athlon Outdoors Editorial director, shoots the Canik MeTE series during the Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous. Canik is a prominent player in the aerospace defense sector for 22 years, 12 as a significant firearms producer. The new METE series features changes such as an integrally flared mag well, aggressive texturing and a low profile slide stop lever. The METE has a very impressive trigger pull, if you dig deeper. The METE is as good as any striker-fired pistol. The magazine release is low-profile and ambidextrous. The three-dot front and rear sight combination is fairly standard, but the METE also offers a co-witnessing optics ready slide cut. You can remove the cover plate to mount a Trijicon RMRccc or other micro-optics. The METE’s main feature is that the pistol’s internals are held together by a series pins. The punch is included to help you quickly clean up after a long day of range work. With its two-tone styling, the METE is a great looking, affordable option. The Ceracote-black slide has front and back serrations. FDE polymer frames are used. The METE also has a Pic rail that can be used to mount a weapon lamp. The METE was easy to trigger. I was able to run a dozen 18-round magazines through the pistol without any problems. The METE will not break the bank.
