The H&K P7K3 Pocket Pistol Unicorn

The HK P7K3 pocket gun variant is rarer than the standard version. Overall Length: 6.3 inchesHeight: 4.92 inchesWidth (unloaded): 1.14 inchesWeight: 1.8 Pounds. The H&K P7 variant commands a high price in America. It was even sold in Germany at a high price when it was first introduced in the late 1970s. The P7 is more of a collector than a gun. This is due to its limited importation to the United States. Practically, the P7 is not accessible to most people, but its unique design features have kept the P7 in the public’s consciousness for so many years. The P7 has been praised as a carry gun by those who have had the privilege to use it. The HK P7K3 is the most rare of all the imported variants. Photo: WikipediaHK P7K3 Design DetailThe smallest member in the P7 family, HK P7K3 has a lot to offer over its larger brothers. The smaller calibers the P7K3 is chambered for means that it does not require the gas-delaying mechanism of the standard variants. Instead, it uses a direct blowback action with an hydraulic buffer. The P7K3 can use a non-fixed barrel, which makes it possible to change calibers in a way that isn’t possible with fixed-barrel models. You can swap out the barrel, slide, and magazines to shoot.380 ACP, 0.32 ACP, or.22LR. The P7K3 was designed to be used as a training gun. Therefore, it makes sense that the magazine, barrel and slide can be swapped out to shoot.380 ACP,.32 ACP or.22LR calibers. Every P7K3 magazine is able to hold 8 rounds regardless of caliber. The squeeze-cocker mechanism that lies at the heart the P7K3 family is still present on the HK P7K3, although it may be more comfortable in the smaller version. Instead of pulling the trigger on a traditional striker-fired gun, which primes by pulling the trigger the striker is pulled by the trigger, the P7 strikers can be primed by grasping the squeeze-cocker. P7s can have single-stage triggers that are very smooth and take up very little mechanical effort. Because the squeeze-cocking mechanism is designed to be used in a shooting position, it must be held securely. The cocked hammer can still store enough energy to detonate a round if the grip safety on a 1911 is broken. The P7K3’s striker is only cocked when squeeze-cocker is depressed. This means that a chambered round will not fire if it fails. This is why the HK P7K3 is ideal for pocket carry. It is one of few guns that can be carried without a holster and a chambered round in it. It is almost impossible to accidentally hold the P7’s striker and pull the trigger because of the force required to do so. It takes intent to make this gun fire, making them a very safe carry piece. They are certainly beautiful pistols but they lack the ability to be a “combat handgun”. The P7’s excellent trigger and superior safety are due to the squeeze cocker mechanism. However, this gun’s limited utility in a prolonged firefight is due to the gas-delayed blowback action that will eventually make it too hot to use. Although it may seem counterintuitive, the HK P7K3 is a better combat pistol than its full-sized counterparts. Caribou Media Group could earn a commission on qualifying purchases. Thank you! The HK P7K3’s smaller caliber allows it to use its straight blowback action. This results in less hot gas building up than the gas-delayed blowbacks on other P7s. Photo: Wikipedia.
