The L.W. The L.W. Model 32: The Pocket Pistol Refined?

Although pocket pistols seem simple in theory, the history of their development shows otherwise. There have been many attempts to make the auto pocket pistol in a variety of sizes, calibers, and quality since John Browning introduced it with his Colt 1908 Vest Pocket. The idea of a pocket pistol as a discreet defense tool for a gentleman eventually became a Saturday night special, which has harmed the reputation of the brand. Despite the decline in popularity, there was still one pocket pistol that was popular because of its innovative design. The Seecamp.32 is that pistol. Its designers managed to pack a lot of quality in a small gun. LWS.32. Photo:Rock Island Auction Company.HistoryThe L. W. Seecamp Company, founded by Ludwig Seecamp in 1973, was founded by the German immigrant to America. After being trained as a gunsmith in the pre-war, he moved to America and worked as a designer for Mossberg for several years before establishing his own company that would specialize in double action 1911 conversions. Seecamp’s 1911 conversions became less popular as new double-action.45s such as the Browning BDA came out. Seecamp’s LWS.25 was released in 1981 to fill this market void. LWS.25 comes with a box. Rock Island Auction Company. The LWS.25, a Hammer-fired, double-action rifle that was only half the size of the Czech CZ-45, was also smaller than the CZ-45. The.25 model was in existence long enough to show its merit and that people were willing buy it. However, the LWS.25 was discontinued after only a few years. The original Seecamp’s son Larry has overseen the production of the Seecamp.32. In keeping with his father’s tradition, every Seecamp pistol was made by Larry the old-world gunsmith method: individually and by hand. The pistols were very high quality but it was laborious and expensive. There were still many outstanding orders. A positive change in production was made in 2014 for those who wanted a Seecamp pistol. Larry Seecamp, one of Seecamp’s original master gunsmiths, retired and Larry Seecamp couldn’t find replacements, so he sold the entire business over to Whalley Precision, a close friend. While the pistols’ quality has not diminished since the takeover, it is now much easier to find them and at much lower prices. Whalley Precision still makes LWS pistols in.25,.32, and.380ACP. Design Details. There is no design without an intent. The Seecamp pistols were designed for self-defense. This is a very common and acceptable reason to own a pistol, but it was not the case when the Seecamp.32 was released. Because it was so unorthodox to claim that your pistol was intended for self-defense against other people, sections of the owner’s manual were published in firearms magazines. It was a time when other companies were still pretending their Saturday night specials were for target shooting or sport purposes. It took courage to admit that the Seecamp pistols are not suitable for sporting purposes. The Seecamp was built from the ground up to serve as a last-ditch, self-defense weapon. Its 11.5-pound trigger pull is its only safety. Caribou Media Group could earn a commission on qualifying purchases. Thank you! Seecamp.32s use a chamber-ring delayed blastback operating mechanism, rather than the direct blowback action in the original LWS.25. Although the.32’s higher pressure required a new operating mechanism it is still very easy to shoot, even from a small gun. The.32 Seecamp’s easy control is probably why it remained the most popular model, even after the introduction the LWS.380. Some saw this as a disadvantage, but others saw it as a reasonable compromise that would make the Seecamp the best defensive pistol it could become. Due to the popularity of the Seecamp.32, there are now more defensive hollow points available that can be used in Seecamp systems. Each Seecamp model has a 6+1 capacity, and a heel-style magazine opening. It has been a popular backup gun for police officers all across the country since its release. These are ideal for use in a pocket or ankle-holster and make excellent emergency concealment pieces. These guns are small and ergonomic, so it’s not surprising that at least two other manufacturers have copied their general characteristics since its introduction. There’s no better time than now to add a Seecamp gun to your collection. The MSRP for the LWS.32 is $510, which is a fair price for the best pocket pistol ever made.
