I have an old SIG PP226RDAK chambered for.40. Unfortunately, it does not have an optic cut slide. Even worse, the only available optic cut slide for it is 9mm. Despite the declining cost of optics, I haven’t been in a position to add one to my P226. Until now. Meprolight saw the problem and devised a solution using the detachable Mepro microRDS.
The Meprolight Mepro MicroRDS
Mounts are designed to attach to pistols via the existing rear dovetail slots, replacing your existing rear sight. You don’t have to drill, tap, or have an optic made by a gunsmith. There is no need to make costly modifications to your slide that can’t be undone.
The QD adaptor kit attaches directly to the Meprolight TruDot rear sight mount. This allows for the optic to be quickly removed and the mount used as backup iron sights. It can be removed and re-mounted to the firearm without the need for re-zero.
You can use any red dot optic on the market, but the kit includes the Mepro MicroRDS. The Mepro MicroRDS has a 3 MOA red spot with windage and elevation adjustments on the top and sides. The buttons on the left provide brightness adjustments for all lighting conditions.
The large sight window allows for a wide field view with both eyes regardless of the conditions. The Mepro MicroRDS runs on a single CR2032 CR2032 battery. It does not require to be removed in order to change the battery. The battery compartment is located on top of the optic in an easily-accessible location.
There are three options for mounting the kit. The first is the dovetail QD mount kit for non-optic cuts slides. Next, the Optics-Ready QD mounting kit for optics-ready slides. This allows you to quickly detach your optic-ready pistol. The Optics Only Kit, with Picatinny adaptor, is last.
You can quickly transfer your optic from one platform to another with the Picatinny adaptor attached to a rifle, shotgun, or Meprolight TruDot mounted attached to your pistol and the QD adapter attached your optic.
Editor’s Note
One thing I noticed about the Meprolight Mepro MicroRDS, is its high position on the pistol. It will take some time to get used to as it won’t fall in the natural sight position. Sometimes you have to accept the good and the bad. It’s not easy, but at least you have the option to use an optic on a nonoptic cut pistol.
