Today’s edition of “you cannot make this stuff up” shows how the city of Miami is violating both federal and state law to show the importance of an armed population. Although I’m not certain that this is the intention, it is evident that it is. The city of Miami is telling its citizens to keep armed by proposing a gun purchaseback to arm Ukraine. RELATED STORY Ukraine presents an example of the importance of an armed populace. The Miami Gun Buyback program is fraught with issues. First, let’s clarify that this has nothing to do in arming Ukrainians in case of invasion. This is another attempt to exploit the generosity and emotions of the American people. It’s classic bait-and-switch. According to Miami New Times, the effort is a motivation to reduce the number guns in Miami. Russel stated that “This could move many guns off the streets — that’s where this comes primarily from.” The gun buyback event, dubbed “Guns 4 Ukraine”, is not the first one by the Miami Police Department. Following the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school, the city of South Florida staged a similar event. There wasn’t an invasion of Ukraine at the time. Both buybacks are a knee-jerk response to public outcry. This has nothing to do Ukraine. Are They Real? The prices they are charging are not serious, which further proves that this has nothing whatsoever to do with Ukraine. According to NBC 6 Miami, the event will take place Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The gift cards will be distributed in the following manner: Firearm: $50 gift card. Shotgun or Rifle : $100 gift card.223 Caliber or AR-15 or other high-powered rifles : $150 gift card. According to the Second Amendment Foundation, “Historically, police gun purchasebacks have not deterred crime.” They are a public relations tactic to make it seem like police are trying to crack down on crime by placing guns on a table before the media. The event could be called “cash for clunkers” since the guns they buy back are often not made or function well. They are toys, even though they are Nerf guns. It is absurd to think they will get anything other that garbage. What are they going to do with a rusted out.22 from Grandpa? Zelensky said that they needed long-range artillery and MLRS platforms. An unmaintained 1930s with worn firing pins and rusty action can work. Not to mention that gas gift cards are better than gasoline, depending on how far people travel to bring their firearms. This is a brand new law. The Miami City Hall event violates both federal and state law. According to the SAF, “Their scheme was fraught with legal entanglements.” Shipping firearms to foreign countries without proper paperwork violates federal law, specifically International Traffic in Arms Regulations (also known as ITAR). This plan also violates Florida Statute 799.08, which governs what police can do to firearms and other weapons under their control. The statute does not allow for the shipment of guns to foreign military forces.” While doing investigative journalism, SAF reached out the Miami Police Department to inquire about the laws. It was told that the City of Miami would work to obtain export licenses. They put the cart before it. The SAF continues to explain that even if they are able to obtain a one time export license from the State Department of Defense, which ITAR experts believe is unlikely, it can take months, if not years, to complete the process. So, Ukraine may not even require any buyback harvests after they clear the red tape. This doesn’t send the message they think it does. Perhaps the most funny thing about all this is that gun control advocates are actually defeating themselves.
