Mostly known for their high-quality 1911s and revolvers, Kimber has decided to take on the modern CCW pistol with their new R7 Mako.Kimber R7 Mako Features:Polymer-Framed, Striker-Fired9mm With an 11+1 Or 13+1 CapacityPerformance, Flat-Faced TriggerOptics Cut SlideIncluded Tritium Night SightsFully Ambidextrous ControlsKimber is no stranger to the concealed carry market. For a long time, their compact 1911s, Micro 9s, and Evos have been the preferred CCW gun for many. Despite being fine pistols, they are limited by their 1911 design roots. Kimber’s R7 Mako pistol is now available. Kimber asked concealed carriers what qualities they valued in a carry pistol. The top two answers were a good trigger, and a large magazine capacity. This set the foundation for the R7 Mako. Kimber decided that the best way of achieving this in a striker fired gun would be to use their flat-faced Performance Carry Trigger. The factory recommended that the pull weight be between 5-6.75 pounds. However, special attention was paid to ensure consistent travel and a crisp break. The R7’s flat face, clean break, and short pull should all help in making accurate hits under stress. Kimber, who is from 1911, is not familiar with double-stack magazines. The R7 Mako ships two magazines: one flush-fitting 11-round and one 13-round extended magazine. This puts it on par with the Springfield Hellcat, which is likely to be the R7’s main competitor. Kimber claims that a 15-round mag is coming soon. Caribou Media Group might earn a commission on qualifying purchases. Thank you!Optics Ready or Optics Installed
Both models of Kimber’s R7 Mako have optics pre-installed. Only one model comes with an optic. The slides can be mounted on any compatible optic and are designed to fit into a Shield-pattern RMSc space. However, the Optics Installed model comes with a Crimson Trace CTS-1500. Both models include tritium night-sights that can be used in conjunction with your optic. It’s encouraging to see companies like Kimber adapting to the trend of red dot sighted CCW pistols increasing in popularity. They make an optics cut slide the standard configuration of their new carry piece. This was difficult for a micro-compact. Kimber addressed this issue by using wrap-around grip texturing and fully ambidextrous controls. It is small enough to be easily gripped while shooting, and can be used with either hand. The OR model R7 Mako has an MSRP of $599 and the OI model with a Crimson Trace has an MSRP of $799.For more information on the R7 Mako, please visit kimberamerica.com.More Micro-Compact 9mm PistolsNEXT STEP: Download Your Free Storm Tactical Printable Target Pack 62 Printable MOA Targets with DOT Drills – Rifle Range in YARDS This impressive target pack from our friends at Storm Tactical contains 62 printable targets for rifle and handgun range use.
