The Smith & Wesson Equalizer Levels Concealed Carry

Smith & Wesson’s Equalizer builds on the EZ platform and focuses on conceal carry and ease-of-use. This micro-compact pistol shares many characteristics with the Shield EZ and will be a hit with new shooters. The concealability and feature-rich platform are equally appealing to experienced shooters. The Smith & Wesson Equalizer 9mm Micro-Compact Chambered in 9mm, this pistol has a greater capacity than the Shield EZ’s 10, 13 and 15-round magazines. The 6.75-inch compact is concealable and easy to carry. Despite its compact size, the 3.675 inch stainless steel barrel with Armonite finishing still offers a good sight radius. For better control during firing, the polymer frame has a grip safety feature and a new grip texture and pattern. A three-slot Picatinny Rail sits just ahead of the trigger guard, so you can attach your accessory of choice. The magazine release can be reversible, but it is also set up for right-handed operation. The frame’s stainless steel slide has Armornite finish and easy to mount technology. The slide is easy to use, even for those with weak hands or new shooters. The slide’s forward and rear cocking serrations are aggressive, ensuring a firm grip while racking. The slide has an optic cut that allows you to add any optic. If you don’t want an optic, the slide comes with a white dot front and rear sight. The single-action trigger is quick to take-up, clean break and quickly reset, which allows for faster follow-up shots. The low recoil impulse makes it easy and quick to shoot. The EQUALIZER is a micro-compact, complete package pistol. John Myles, Senior Manager, New Products, stated that the pistol’s multi-purpose design allows for many setup options, including personal carry and range use. It also doesn’t compromise on comfort or firepower. Editor’s note: Smith & Wesson informed me that the optic cut uses a modified Shield cut footprint. It can mount any optic with the Shield SMS footprint. It can also mount the Holosun 507K because of the modification. To use an optic with a different footprint, you will need an adapter plate.
