Smith & Wesson presented two of its Volunteer Series offerings at the Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous: the XV Pro, and X 308 win. They delivered as you would expect from Smith & Wesson. The rifles are built with the same quality Smith & Wesson is famous for and include aftermarket upgrades shooters will love. The Smith & Wesson Volunteer XV Pro & X 308 WIN are built on an aluminum frame. Each rifle has tight tolerances. They also have solid lockup between receivers, eliminating rattle. The rifles have a 16-inch, 4140 CM threaded barrel that is Armornite-finished (inside and outside). The XV Pro is target crowned. The XV Pro comes with a PWS 556 muzzle-breast, while the X 308 WIN has a PWS 762 muzzle-breast. The XV Pro includes a 15-inch aluminum S&W forend with Magpul Type-2 Magpul M-LOK rail covers. The X 308 WIN also includes a BCMGunfighter M-LOK forend. Both rifles come with William’s Gun Sight folding sights. Each upper receiver comes with a Picatinny rail to allow for installation of optics or other accessories. B5 Systems supplies the furniture for each rifle, which includes the SOPMOD stock grip and P-Grip 23 pistol grip. Both include the ambidextrous Radian Raptor LT charging handle. Only the X 308 WIN has an ambidextrous safety selection, bolt release, magazine release, and bolt release. Each rifle has a gas-operated action with a mid-length gas system. Rounds are sent downrange via a flat-faced trigger. A chromed firing pin adds to its durability. The XV Pro is chambered with 5.56, while X 308 WIN chambers in.308 WIN, as the name suggests. Each rifle ships with one magazine. The XV Pro has a capacity for 30 rounds, while the X 308 WIN has a capacity for 20.
