RELATED STORY Walther Ankle Medical Kit Makes Sure First Aid is Always Available Essential Items for a Car First-Aid Kit While there are many pre-made kits available, you can customize it. You can make sure you have the right items for your specific needs. You can also save money by building your own first aid kit. You will also be able to use your first aid kit in a personal way. Container To keep your kit together, you will need a container. It is a good idea to wait until all the components are ready before you start packing. This will allow you to determine how much space you’ll need. Also, you will need to decide if you want a hard or soft container. A soft container can be squished. If you choose to use a soft container of any kind, ensure it is sturdy and protects your items. You might also consider smaller, clear containers to help you keep your items separate within the kit. This will make it easier to identify and acquire them. You can also get small containers with multiple compartments for smaller items. Basic Essentials It is best to start with the basics. Your car’s first aid kit should be no different. When building your first aid kit, you should address all possible issues. Keep an infant and child version of everything, whenever possible. The items listed above should be sufficient to cover most minor emergencies. You can go deeper for more serious situations by adding the following: CPR Mask. If CPR is required, you don’t want your time wasted wondering if they have an infectious condition. You’ll want to start immediately. A good CPR mask can help reduce the risk of performing CPR on someone else. CPR is a procedure that involves breathing and a CPR mask won’t protect against COVID. Tourniquet A tourniquet, although it is something you may never use, you will be glad that you have it. You want to be able stop blood loss while you wait for paramedics in the event of a serious accident. A proper tourniquet can help reduce blood loss until help arrives. Anti-clot Bandages Similar to the tourniquets, anti-clot bandsages will reduce blood loss from wounds that a tourniquet can’t reach. A tourniquet cannot be used to treat major lacerations to the torso. A good anti-clot bandage can slow down blood loss until help arrives. It is a good idea keep several sizes of anti-clot bandages on hand. In case of minor arm breaks, dislocations, etc., you can use a sling to help. It will reduce further damage by keeping the arm immobilized. It is a good idea for you to have a good sling in your bag. Before you apply the sling, however, be sure to assess the extent of the damage. Moving the arm too much could cause more damage. Before moving the arm, make sure to assess the injury thoroughly. First Aid Manual Knowledge is power. If you don’t know what to do with the gear, no amount of gear will help. A good first aid guide can help you avoid making things worse. It can also help you diagnose the medical situation and make the right decision about what to do next. However, it is important to do your research before you make a purchase. A bad first aid book can be just as harmful as a good one. You should ensure that the manual you choose is accredited. A first aid class will also prepare you for basic medical emergencies. There are many courses and classes offered by the American Red Cross for all levels of training. Find a class or course near you by checking your local area. Medical emergencies can strike when we least expect them. It is important to be prepared for anything, from car accidents to injuries at your child’s games. Although we hope to never need to use more than the Band-Aids that we have in our kit, it is important to be prepared for any emergency. You will always be prepared for anything.
