AR pistol manufacturers have been working for years to make their guns more compact and lighter, just like handguns. One company has taken compact to a whole new level, and it may change the way we view AR pistols. FoldAR is that company. Corby Hall is the owner and operator of FoldAR. He is no stranger to designing guns, having helped LWRCI create its REPR in 2005. He was also involved in the Daniel Defense DD5 project in 2011.
The FoldAR Pistol just got MoBetta with a QuickChange Barrel System
The Editor’s Update:
The FoldAR receives an upgrade that shooters will love: a new takedown pin that allows for quick change between calibers. The new MoBetta Whatchacaw quick change barrel system allows for all AR-15 applications. It allows users to quickly switch between calibers or barrel lengths.
All FoldAR models have the new barrel system that allows them to easily switch between 9-inch and 12.5-inch barrels. The system also allows for quick caliber changes between 5.56×45 NATO or.300 AAC BLACKOUT on all lengths of barrels. The 16-inch barrel can use 6.5 Grendel.
FoldAR is a non-NFA pistol. However, if you attach a barrel less than 16 inches, you will need a pistol brace instead of a buttstock. This will ensure your firearm is NFA-compliant and won’t require an SBR tax stamp.
The updated FoldAR MoBetta pistols can only be purchased as complete firearms at this time. Stand-alone Whatchacaw barrel systems will be made available beginning January 1, 2023. Customers who have purchased or are planning to purchase a 2023 MoBetta full firearm will be able to access the barrel systems.
FoldAR Pistol Details
FoldAR is proudly made in the USA by veterans. FoldAR manufactures many of its components and currently offers its designs in a bifold pistol configuration aswell as a single-fold firearm configuration. Both are available in.223/5.56 and.300 Blackout versions. For testing, I was able to get my hands on the pistol chambered for 223/556.
The pistol is similar to any AR pistol, but it folds down just over 10 inches in length. It can also be carried in a small sling-style backpack for easy transportation and deep concealment. The MSRP for the pistol is $2,399, which is quite high in today’s market, but not bad considering what you get.
To fold the pistol press the little steel button at the bottom of the brace. Once folded in, pull the tab on either side of rail to release the locking lever hook assembly. This will release the barrel and rail from other parts of the upper. It will then swing over and lock using a little locking plug that fits into the hole in the rail. It takes only seconds to open and close the pistol. To accommodate the brace’s folding capabilities, the pistol has a modified and shorter bolt carrier group. It runs, I know what you’re thinking. It runs, it’s that simple.
The FoldAR Pistol
The FoldAR is like shooting any AR Pistol. It was capable of firing 500 rounds with only two malfunctions. Both malfunctions were caused by a garbage.223-reloaded ammo. It also had issues with two other ARs that I tried it in. It is easy to lock the bolt and keep the pistol in your backpack with a full 20-round magazine loaded. When you are ready to deploy it, you just need to drop the bolt and have a round chambered. Foldar.com is a great place to find a vehicle gun that can be concealed in a backpack and that will pique the interest of gun enthusiasts.
