Sometimes the smallest victories are the most important. Sometimes you don’t need to win the whole war at once. Sometimes, you can just focus on the small victories. This is what happened when the Oregon Supreme Court temporarily suspended Measure 114, a new gun control measure. Oregon isn’t yet out of the woods.
Oregon Gun Control Measure 114 on Hold
After Measure 114 was passed, gun rights groups such as the NSSF filed immediately requests to federal and state courts for a temporary restraining or halting order. Karen Immergut, a federal judge, rejected the request to block Measure 114. Her reasoning is that plaintiffs have failed to show that high-capacity magazines are commonly used for lawful purposes. She did give an additional 30 days for refinement of the permitting process.
Larry Keane, Senior Vice president and General Counsel of NSSF, stated to Fox News that “there are more than half a million magazines in the United States that can hold more than ten rounds.” A majority of gun owners in the United States have magazines with this capacity or more. It’s clear that it’s commonly used for lawful purposes, such as self-defense.
Judge Robert Raschio of Harney County felt the same way as Keane, and sided with plaintiffs on Tuesday. Harney County claims that Measure 114 is against the Oregon constitution. It gives people the right to self-defense. Judge Raschio issued an injunction against the measure.
December 13th will see a hearing on Judge Raschio’s ruling.

Oregon Gun Control Measure Sparks a Dramatic Rise in Gun Sales
Gun control is not funny, but the joke is that Democrats are the best gun salesmen in the world. Gun sales boom every time they pass legislation to restrict our Second Amendment rights. Gun manufacturers should start giving them “best salesman” awards and erecting a plaque in their honour.
This is what Oregon has seen after the passage of Measure 114 (details are below). According to reports, background checks in Oregon were declining up until the 2022 election. The number of background checks that are still required has more than doubled.
Oregon Live reports that 8,609 people requested background checks on potential buyers for guns in the week ending Oct. 30. According to Capt. Stephanie Bigman, a state police spokesperson.”
A Harbinger for What’s to Come
Unfortunately, the rush for new legislation is giving us a glimpse of what to expect when it is enacted. The demand for background checks is too high for the state police to keep up with. Many applicants are now waiting weeks for approval.
Oregon Live continues to state, “Trudi lacasse, a representative from The Gun Room in Southeast Portland said that interested gun buyers, including those with concealed handgun licences, are finding it very difficult to obtain a background check.
Oregon Live interviewed Karl Durkheimer from the Northwest Armory, which is part of his family. He said that he expects delays once the law has been in place.
“He stated that he couldn’t imagine how state police or county sheriffs would have a permitting process in order by the measure’s effective dates and expects a court challenge.

The same state that brought us CHAZ 2.0 in Portland is back. Oregon, the state that allowed criminals to take control of a large part of its largest city, has passed one the most stringent gun control laws in the United States. Ballot measure 114 was narrowly passed in the midterm elections, but will only empower more violent crime.
Oregon passes one of the strictest gun control measures in the United States
The new gun control measure bans “large capacity” magazines, narrowly passing by 50.68% and 49.32%. It also contains other restrictive anti Second Amendment gun laws that gun control lobby will love. We all know that “large capacity” magazines are actually just standard capacity. Democrats love to manipulate language to suit the needs of their constituents.
According to the Statesman Journal: “Oregon voters narrowly passed Measure 114,” a strict gun measure that requires people to get a permit before purchasing a firearm. It also bans large-capacity magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition, and creates a statewide firearms registry.
Surprisingly, the measure was supported by even some Oregon gun owners. It seems that rising violent crime and gun violence in their cities isn’t enough. They are all set to be added to a statewide firearm database. They will learn the hard way about why they need a firearm database.
NPR reports that “About a Third to Half of Oregonians Own Guns, which is consistent with national trends.” While gun owners were opposed to the measure in principle, others said that they would accept the hassle of obtaining permits if it meant saving lives.
What does the new Oregon gun control measure do?
Measure 114, a gun control wishlist, is hailed as one the most stringent gun control measures in the nation. The new state law covers everything, from background checks and bans to waiting times and fees. A statewide firearm database is also included.
The Statesman Journal continues, “Under Measure 114 residents will need to obtain a permit for the purchase of a gun. The fee for applicants is $65 and must be submitted with a photo ID. They also need to be fingerprinted, undergo approved safety training, and pass a criminal background check. They are not prohibited from owning firearms. The maximum fee is $65 and permits are processed by the local police chiefs, county sheriffs, or their designees.
The new law’s ID requirement is one of the most ironic aspects. Remember when Democrats claimed that requiring ID to vote was prohibitive for the less fortunate and minorities. They only care about the less fortunate if it serves their own interests. Low-income residents are also unable to own guns due to the $65 additional fee.
Breitbart News was told by Sheriff Phillips that it was an equity barrier to allow people with lower incomes to legally own a firearm. It’s just another expense.”
A 30-day waiting period is one of the most dangerous provisions. A permit will not be granted to a woman who is being stalked or harassed. She will need to wait for 30 days. In a matter of 30 days, a lot can happen. Portland, for example, had its own CHAZ version that was created and then dismantled in just 36 hours.
The law also prohibits the import, purchase, sale and possession of magazines that have a capacity greater than ten rounds.
Law Enforcement Not Well Received
The new law will take effect on December 8. Many law enforcement personnel believe that implementation will take longer. This is because of the financial burden on police officers without additional funding.
Breitbart News stated that Phillips was also concerned that the permit requirement could cause a budget crisis for smaller police departments that lack sufficient manpower to handle permit renewal and issuance as well as other aspects of Measure 114.
Crook County Sheriff John Gautney also released a statement stating that “Implementation BM 114 will put a tremendous strain on our already strained operation at the Sheriff’s Office.” BM 114 places a financial strain upon our office that we can’t absorb and doesn’t provide any additional funding for the law enforcement agencies.
Many law enforcement officers say they won’t enforce the measure, regardless of whether funding is available or whether they are upholding their Constitutional vows.
Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan shared on social media that she wanted to send a clear message that the Linn County Sheriff’s Office was NOT going to enforce magazine capacity limits.
The statement was repeated by Jefferson County, Sherman County, Union County, and Sherman County Sheriffs.
The constitutionality of the new law as it stands is questionable. Opponents are hopeful that the measure will be stopped by immediate lawsuits. We can only hope that any lawsuits against Measure 114 are successful. For Oregonans and all Americans.
This could be a test ground to see if a law such as this will be upheld. We can expect many more similar laws to sweep the country if it does.
