The anti-gun left has made life a lot more difficult for law-abiding gun manufacturers and owners. UPS has changed its shipping rules for firearms after receiving an aggressive letter from gun-grabbing politicians. The change will not affect civilian gun owners but it will have huge implications for the firearms industry.

It might be time to use a carrier other than UPS when shipping a firearm
UPS has updated its firearm shipping policies following a letter from five antigun Senators. The letter was sent to 28 carriers, including UPS, FedEx and the United States Postal Service, on May 19, 2022. The letter contained accusations directed at the carriers and implicating them in the rise in gun violence.
According to the SAF (Second Amendment Foundation), “Five Democratic Senators” sent troubling letters to United Parcel Service, 27 other carriers, and blamed them for the rise in violent crime rates.
The signers include Edward Markey (D.Mass. ), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Cory A. Booker (D-N.J.), Christopher S. Murphy, and Dianne Feinstein (D.Calif.). ), Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., Cory A. Booker(D-N.J.), Christopher S. Murphy(D-Conn.), Dianne Feinstein (“D-Calif.”).

The Senators wrote that they were concerned about the fact that criminals can use stolen firearms for crimes and lax shipping security measures contribute to the epidemic of gun violence in the country.
A new set of rules
The new requirements insist that all frames or receivers must have a serial number. This is in the name of fighting “ghost guns”. Even though the new rules indicate that the federal law regulating these is not yet in effect,
The UPS website lists these requirements as:
“UPS will not accept firearms (including handguns), or firearm parts for domestic shipment unless (1) such firearms (including receivers and partially disassembled frames or receivers as defined by 27 CFR SS 478.12) are identified and have a serial number that conforms to federal law; (3) such firearm parts within a package can’t be assembled into a firearm.

“Any item that is classified as a firearm (including silencers or firearm mufflers) or a “frame”, or “receiver”, under federal law must be identified and have a serial number to satisfy federal law’s requirements for identifying such items, including 27 CFR SS478.92 and/or27 CFR SS479.102, regardless if such items are exempted from or not subjected to the identification requirements under applicable law. This prohibition is in effect even before 27 CFR SS 478.12.
27 CFR SS 478.12 will take effect on August 24, 2022. UPS may be trying to get compliant before that date due to a congressional hearing.
Congressional Hearing
The letters were sent as a congressional hearing is scheduled for July 20, where Ruger, Smith & Wesson and Daniel Defense are requested to attend. Although it is not clear what shipping companies are involved in the hearing, the timing and content of the letters suggests that they are. They also contain 20 questions and request documents for shipping companies.
Some of the questions were listed by the SAF on its website as:

It is not secret that the Senators who are requesting the information are hostile to the firearm industry. They appear to be targeting anyone who works with/advises the industry in any capacity. All indications are that the hearing will prove hostile. UPS may have made these sudden changes because of this.
Jim Shepard, of the Outdoor Wire, stated that “Judging by Rep. Maloney’s statement on the hearing it’s doubtful that the trio will be given a very cordial reception. ‘Since our investigation into the gun market and its disgraceful marketing of these dangerous weapons, we discovered that Daniel Defense, Smith & Wesson and Sturm, Ruger all play prominent roles in an sector that makes billions in profits selling these items.’
Preemptive Attack
UPS’s decision to change its rules is only the latest news, but it appears they have been taking preemptive steps. UPS has been cancelling the accounts of gun dealers recently and destroying their mail.
It would be easy for us to assume that UPS changed its rules because of the Senate’s gun bullies. But, the way they are targeting gun dealers suggests that they have been waiting for a reason.

According to the SAF, the United Parcel Service has been terminating the accounts gun dealers across the nation. All packages in the UPS system could be’seized or destroyed’.
Ghost Firearms, a Florida gun dealer, received a cancellation letter. It was effective immediately. UPS claims that Ghost Firearms may have violated applicable laws regarding the shipment of “ghost weapons.”
The letter stated, “Please note that any package found within the UPS system determined by GHOST FIREARMS could be seized or destroyed.”
Ghost Firearms’ owner Joe Zatar claims that he has shipped $30,000 worth products. He contacted his sales representative and was not informed of the account cancellation. Zatar claims that the ATF visited the company two weeks before and stated that they are fully in compliance.

SAF also states that Brownells also reported to Facebook that its account had been terminated. The post is no more available but according to the SAF, it read:
“Heads up! UPS has decided to stop accepting Brownells packages. We are currently putting together an email to send to customers whose UPS account has been closed or to those who have opened orders with UPS as the carrier.
The Second Amendment is not to be circumvented
After the July 20 congressional hearing, it is not clear how far this will go. The hearing is aimed at the firearm industry and intends scare everyone who supports it, judging by the sounds. This will mainly affect 80% of the lowers, but who knows what future definitions they might add.
This is the anti-Second Amendment bully state in action. They won’t take away our rights and will instead target entire industries. This is precisely why the founding fathers didn’t want government to regulate free markets. It is too powerful.
